I would personally like to thank John McCain and Sarah Palin
for exposing the dark underbelly of this nation. Somehow, some way I thought that the specters of hate, bigotry and ignorance were disappearing from our society. Yes, of course I knew (thought) that there were a few small pockets of intolerance, but I assumed that with each generation that they were shrinking.

I guess it all comes from growing up and living in a diverse metropolitan area. I can't believe that these people claim to be religious spiritual people. Sometimes it makes me wonder to which particular deity they owe their allegiance. Certainly not the one I know, not the one that I assumed that Christians or Muslims or Buddhists or Hindus or any other religion that I know of worships. Since when is the slogan "God is Hate"? Where did that come from?

When did John McCain sell his soul to the devil and how did he find his minion in Sarah Palin?

It is quite unusual for me to think this way, but I woke up this morning to a TV that was still on, and on the screen was this guy holding up a despicable sign at a Palin rally who was rude to the person attempting to interview him. The demeanor of the crowds scared me. I don't want to be scared of my fellow countrymen.

How did this come to be? How?

1. You answered your own question in the first pp
It did not "come to be"

It has always been.

anti-Jew, anti-Irish, anti-Chinese, anti-African

tolerance has NEVER been America's strong suit, despite the facade.

All that is happening is the same instincts that created the klan and skinheads are being encouraged.

What you see now is nothing compared to the antisemitism of Charles Lindbergh, nor to the viciousness of jim crow and the anti-civil-rights activists of the 60's.
