4. I urge people to use caution
doing this like this. This is in the same category as the gal who said her daughter went to a Palin rally and took off her sweatshirt revealing an Obama shirt. If it is a peaceful protest, I think that's a good thing. Unfortunately, it only takes one person doing something for the situation to get out of hand. And the media will blame Obama's campaign and supporters.

For the love of god, we almost have this election won, please don't do anything to screw it up.

22. Obama is doing great without the Democrats stirring up trouble-a
peaceful demo is fine but this tone is not peaceful as I read it.

6. Nope - it is a ticketed event and the local GOP is giving out tix. The local PD, town office
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 08:58 AM by JohnMcCant2008
and School Board have told me they have no control over who can enter since they (the local GOP) have rented the auditorium...........

I'm sure we will be held to some area outside the school.

Really, you want to promote a "hate rally"?

Does that feel a little awkward to you?

12. No - I want to PROTEST the McCain/Palin rally.........
Why would a Pro-Obama, Anti-Palin protest be awkward?

I can no longer understand when it is people find it appropriate to protest and when it is not.

18. There is a hge difference between protesting and hating.
Protesting is completely legit expression of policy differences, but when adverstises as a hate rally it turns off more people than it attracts.

it's odd that people bemoan the fact that there are not people in the street, and infer that the American people are a bunch of sheep, but then when people do protest it is only appropriate if it fits into their own view of what is acceptable.

20. I fixed the header! Jeeesh! I didn't mean a "Democrat Hate" rally - I was referring to the fact
that all the repub rallies lately are taking on the tone of "hate rallies". My title was not written properly - my bad..... There are many references on this board to the McCain "Hate Talk Express" - that was the context of my post........

If you all read my other post, you'll see that I have made many calls for information to town offices, PD, School Board to make sure we are organized legally and in a way that complies with whatever rules they have set up. I still have to live in this town and am certainly not looking to piss off the wrong people or embarrass the Obama campaign. I am active here in town and have spent and will spend time canvassing, calling and driving for the cause.........

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7442147

If the general opinion is still that Obama supporters should not be able to protest though - well then I don't know what to think abut that. The right to assemble and protest is a right and to me an obligation.........

but the original header looked like you wanted to stage a "we hate Palin rally" as opposed to a counter demonstration.

I was like " WTF?" We are better than that. Now I understand.

33. They only have a 1/2 day - scheduled long ago for teacher workshop - not the Palin Rally.
I checked on this with the school board. I wanted to make sure my daughter was not forced to hear her speak as part of any curriculum.

36. You want to "shut it down"????????????
That's nice.
Would you like the other side to participate in the same kinds of activities when Obama comes to town.
We are better than that.

I think going with signs and showing your support for Obama or disdain for McCain is fine. Trying to "shut down" a political rally in a swing state three weeks before an election sounds a little like the "F" word to me..........

37. earlier when i thought this was a partisan, school/tax dollar sponsored event - yes, I wanted it
stopped. This is also a private ticketed rally - not open to the public.... I pay plenty of property taxes and thought I was not being allowed to attend and support Obama. It didn't seem right.

After further research and calls I found out the rally is legit within our towns rules, so now I am trying to organize a legal protest...

based on your post, i think you and I are in agreement.
