Sen. Clinton says 2nd White House run is unlikely
WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton puts the chances of her running for president again at near zero — slightly higher than the chances she gives for becoming Senate majority leader or a Supreme Court justice.

In an interview aired Tuesday on "Fox & Friends" on the Fox News Channel, Clinton, D-N.Y., was asked the chances, on a scale of 1 to 10, that she would be the next majority leader in the Senate.

"Oh, probably zero," she said. "I'm not seeking any other position than to be the best senator from New York that I can be."

Being nominated to the Supreme Court?

"Zero," Clinton said. "I have no interest in doing that."

Running for president again?

"Probably close to zero," she said. "There's an old saying: Bloom where you're planted."

The former first lady, who was elected to the Senate in 2000 and re-elected in 2006, said she looked forward to working as a senator with a Barack Obama administration.

We need new blood. Not really interesting in seeing the Clinton show all over TV again.

Would anybody call Teddy's career "lackluster", following his Presidential run?

6. Well, she can still do a lot of good for our country
Running for president is hard so I don't blame her if she doesn't want to run again.

7. Here's hoping she changes her mind.
Some of us will try hard and we'll probably have 8 years to convince her.

8. She has to say that.
If she were looking to run again, it would probably be in 2012. But there's a little problem about that. She'd be either running against an incumbent McCain (or Palin, if the old fart were to have croaked) -- which means Obama would have lost -- or she'd be running against the incumbent of her own party.

She will run again if and only if Obama loses. That's highly, highly unlikely at this point. Ergo it's highly, highly unlikely that Hillary will run again.

By 2016 who knows what new faces will be on the scene, what new stars will have arisen. We dems may have screwed up royally or we may be like the New Deal -- where we rule basically unchallenged for a very long time.

16. I really don't think that an electorate that refers to a 72-year old man as Gramps
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 12:06 PM by LisaM
has a chance of getting behind a 68-year old woman. Even now, when she's just 60, people posted that outdoor picture of her that made her look wrinkly about 100 times - on a supposedly progressive forum, no less.

Sorry, ageism, especially for women, is too rampant in our culture for her to have another chance. This was it, and it's gone.

She does have the normal skin of anyone her age, but she's quite pretty in person, much more so than on TV.

right wing maggots when it serves her personal ambition. It shows how broad minded she is, she'll seek support from anywhere, including from those who think she's involved in murder & drug running -- if there's something in it for her personally.

She's the true hope for Republicans who are searching for a way to come back.

24. I kind of hope she does run again in 2016
I had my issues with her in the primaries but I admired her for a long time before that and am starting to admire her again as she makes good on her promise to campaign hard for Obama. I guess it depends who else runs 8 years from now, but right now I find myself hoping she decides to run again.

27. Time will tell
I could totally understand not really wanting to go through it again.

I will say that once your around 70, in general women are more with it than men. I think she maybe could run in 2016 but I'm starting to believe that younger people might well be better suited for the job.

Energy and mental flexibility are tremendous resources for a President to draw on.

32. PUMAs won't hear anything.

The core PUMA people have an ideological filter that borders on fanaticism. The news source for these Hillary quotes will be declared to be "in the tank for Obama". The PUMAs think they know what Hillary thinks better than Hillary herself :D

29. What's so terrible about being a US Senator?
People always seem to be job-searching for Clinton (Supreme Court justice, Senate majority leader, president in 2016). But why? I think being a senator would be an awesome job -- one lots of people would love.

33. Translation
"Oh, probably zero," she said. "I'm not seeking any other position than to be the best senator from New York that I can be."

Translation: I want to be on the Supreme Court so bad I can taste it. I've already started twisting arms among power Dems. Failing that, I'll take majority leader in a heartbeat.

For the record, she doesn't have to stop being senator from New York to be majority leader.

If she ever gets tired of it, she could go for doing for women's issues what Al Gore has done for global warming.
