One significant Obama campaign mistake:
pulling out of Georgia. From memory, it was done at the height of the Palin bounce. All campaign staff were redeployed to NC, at a time, again from memory, a SUSA outlier poll there was showing McCain with a 20% lead. Perhaps their internals were showing some NC deterioration Now Georgia is closing, and there's a tightly contested senate race.

All of this pales in comparison to such brilliant moves as the $39 million invested in Florida, but nevertheless, I think they got Georgia wrong.

1. Saddleback was the significant mistake, IMO...
I don't think Georgia was ever realistic.

2. They Might Have Been Premature
but if they win NC as a result, was it really a mistake? Plus, the gains in NC came at a time when the campaign needed a boost.

3. Well Obama pulled out because of the Russian invasion.. i'm sure he'll head back soon now
that it's safe.

HA! Yeah.. with 3 weeks left, I think he could still get GA. A LOT of African American's in Atlanta.. and frankly, it's one of the most progressive cities in the SE.

4. I have no problem with pouring resources into NC
I think that state is more winnable than Georgia.

6. Hindsight is 20/20, remember...
Georgia was more of a long-shot than North Carolina, so if the choice at the time seemed to be between winning one or losing both, I'll back his decision.

7. This **may** have been a mistake, but it certainly won't break him.
We won't know if it was a mistake for a few weeks.

8. He may realize how deep seated the racism is in some parts of Ga. True story:
Last Friday, I had several hours in the pilot lounge in Atlanta (I don't live in Ga, but work out of there). As I was sitting at a company computer, I overheard two people talking near me about the election. One of them was talking about what an ignorant tool McCain is. The other replied, "you're absolutely right, but what choice do we have? It's either McCain or the black guy."

Unbelievable.

9. Georgia was a stretch state
The Goal is 270 not 400 like some people on here are starting to believe. Get 270 than you have the luxuary of going for the landslide. At the time they pulled out of Georgia it wasn't at 270 yet.

11. Obama has run an excellent and great campaign, but not perfect. So what?
His campaign has done fantastic and I don't know what point complaining about a perceived "significant" campaign mistake serves.

13. I agree
Obama had a nice chance of snagging Georgia, and he's making it competitive. But he won't win it, and I'm sure he could have won (very closely) in GA on Election Day if he didn't pull out of it.

15. Not really, NC at this point is just as important than GA.
no need to spread thin when we can concentrate on NC, VA, and FL. WE just need one.

16. Nope...

Getting out of GA was a good move...chances are if Obama poured millions into GA, the race would get tighter, but would not go Obama...getting out of GA meant he could go after more plausible states like VA, Ohio, FLA, MO, CO, hell even Indiana and NC are better plays that Georgia.

Georgia going Obama would be nice and would signify a total blowout of epic proportions, but 'getting GA' has nothing to do with winning this election, getting the true battleground states IS, and dedicating money to GA could put those states in peril.

If GA wants more attention then they need to vote a little less far-right wing in eelctions./
