6. Turn off the radio and TV, disconnect from the Internet,...
Take a tent or a camping trailer and go out into the wilderness for the next two months. Come back after everything is over and done with and all the dust has settled.

29. I think it's about time -
This became my desktop. No, he hasn't let us down.

I hope and pray WE don't let him down as well. (Americans, not DU.)

I think this may have something to do with the fact my son, my oldest, turned 18 Yesterday. He wanted a Tattoo for two years- had it picked out and everything. (It's a combination wolf, raven totem...it's beautiful)

I saved up for it, and managed to get it for him but after I didn't even have a buck fifty to get him a card. He hugged me really tight (After sitting there for almost 2 hours) and said "Mama this is the best, lasting present you could have gotten me. Just think, when I get hitched and have a baby- that baby will be up on my shoulder and seeing your gift to me."

I cried like an idiot.

He's joining the Navy this summer after graduation :( I don't know what I would do if it was CIC McCain instead of Obama.

You could make some phone calls for the campaign, then you wouldn't feel so stressed. I think you feel that you have no control over what happens, but you do. Working toward our goal would make you feel better.

19. I'm worried, too. What's McCain going to do when he loses? What if the depression
kills him, or causes some of his health problems to flare up? What if Palin goes broke and has to do a Playboy spread? What if the voters like Obama so much that he's a shoe-in for 2012, and that causes him to relax and fall into a sophomore slump? What if the rest of the world is so happy with the choice that stock markets soar to dangerous heights again? How are we going to stay united when the troops come home and we don't have Iraq to unite us anymore? What's going to happen when we begin building better levee and flood control systems in New Orleans and other coastal regions, and the regions devastated by natural disasters become thriving parts of the economy again, while an investment in green technology stimulates production and research, causing job and wage growth to explode, generating enough extra income to wipe out the deficit in five years and leave us with a surplus to invest in our infrastructure and education system? What happens when we have cleaner air, a real health care system, safer monetary infrastructures, and a government that can respond to emergencies without simply bombing something?

We have been so united in outrage, will we know how to unite in victory? That's my concern. But I beat on.

20. Something to help you --
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 12:30 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
This is something I posted here on DU back on January 17, 2007.

"I wanted to share something that happened to me when I was watching the Democratic Convention that featured Barrack Obama as a speaker.

First, I should say that I regularly have these "flashes" of future information -- just a little internal voice that will give me a declarative statement that will later turn out to be true. I think the weirdest one I ever got was during a pre-release screening of "Ghost". When Whoopi Goldberg first came on screen, my little voice said, "She is going to win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for this." Even as I listened to the little voice, I thought to myself, "That is fucking crazy!"

Well, it turned out it wasn't that crazy after all.

Another time, I was coming home after a very long day of work and parked my car on the side of my house instead of putting it in the driveway like I normally do. The little voice told me I needed to move the car to the driveway, but I was too tired to move the garbage cans from the drive. So I left it there. The next morning I wake to find my car had been stolen and that it was totaled in a hit and run accident.

I have learned the hard way to pay attention to the little voice. :)

So, fastforward -- I am watching the convention. Obama is introduced and starts to walk out onto the stage. I have never heard of him, have no idea who he is or what he stands for. Before he even speaks, that little voice says to me, "This man is going to be the first black President of the United States." Clear as a bell.

With Obama's announcement he has formed an exploratory committee, I am thinking back to that flash. A lot.

Was his Presidency supposed to be 2008 or some future date? I have no idea, there was no indication of that in my flash.

But I will be watching the next two (four? eight?) years with extra interest."

This is the nost relaxed I have been about an election in years! :D

On edit: a friend was there with me at the time, and I turned to tell him about the flash I had. We talk about it a lot these days. :D

28. It's ok...I think we all feel some stress to one degree or another.
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 12:48 PM by SpookyCat
I know I do.

What helps for me is

- working on getting O elected
- being with my friends and family
- getting out of GD : P and going to the Photography group (they are nice there!)
- laughing as much as I can!

I made a mistake a while ago and tried to encapsulate the last 8 years, esp the last few to my sister, who has been paying very little attention, as it turns out. So going through everything, up to and including telling her I will not be a good german, and exactly what I mean by that...it freaked me right the hell out. I realized and said out loud for the first time that I will fight and die if it came to that. And I mean that.

However....

Truly I don't think it will. I think this is all sound and fury as they say.

*****************************************

Oh, hey, here's something fun we're gonna do....

I realized that since the election is Nov 4, the day after is Guy Fawkes Day!!!

Sooo, my friends and I are going to make tiny effigies of all the war criminals, and burn them in my fireplace on November 5th! "remember...remember!"

If you're near SF...you should come by! I'll even save shrub for you, kay?

Edit to take out misplaced smilie....
