Walt Monegan Returns the Fire
From Andrew Halcro's blog http://www.andrewhalcro.com/walt_monegan_fires_back

In a bold move, former Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan filed a request with the personnel board on Monday for a "Due Process Hearing To Address Reputational Harm", inflicted by Governor Sarah Palin.

Monegan's attorney Jeff Feldman wrote in his filing that while Monegan does not contest the goveror's right to discharge him from his position as commissioner, the governor is not entitled to make untrue and defamatory statements about her reasons for discharging him.

"The factual questions raised in Governor Palin's complaint to the Personnel Board are closely related to the factual questions raised by Mr. Monegan's consititutional right to a hearing that will provide him the opportunity to clear his name and redress reputational harm by publicly proving that he was not a rogue employee or grossly insubordinate, as the Governor has alleged, and that he was not terminated as Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety for those reasons."

In a 65 page addendum, Feldman breaks down every accusation about Monegan's behavior and refutes the false claims about Monegan being a rogue commissioner. In one exhibit, emails are provided to show that Monegan's trip to Washington to seek additional federal funds for Alaska's high rate of sexual assault -that Governor Palin called "the last straw" - was in fact approved and a product of almost eight months of coordination within the administration.

For more on this story...tune in tomorrow to my radio show for a complete discussion of Monegan's filing and the detailed evidence presented to refute the governor's charges that Monegan was a "rogue employee" and was "egregiously subordinate."

22. I agree
She was elected, he was NOT. Access of state employee files by a non-state employee, could imagine a case could be made.

18. Probably not
Well, he can sue her. Whether he can win is another matter. They are both public officials. He would need to prove "actual malice." While we know that was there, proving it is a tough nut to crack.

I'd really like to see her get her ass handed to her by Obama/Biden (for whom I just voted) and then go back to Alaska and face impeachment and a slew of civil suits.

20. the bush loves him. he really tried to make things better there for
the people. I remember a murder spree that happened in winter where a guy went nuts and murdered four or five people. The troopers couldn't get in right away so people were barracaded into their houses. it was awful. one more difference between us and the lower forty eight. Walt
was working to make that better. Too bad.

10. Good for him
I read somewhere about his mother at a rally of some sorts ?? holding up a sign, that jokingly said "mother of the rogue."

I grew up in a small town; I have returned somewhat to a small town (we live so remotely that I don't have to interact much, if at all, there), and gossip is just brutal. I understand what the Monegan's are enduring with this crap from Palin, it is likely just the nastiest stuff imaginable. Hard to live down stuff, yeah, and esp. so when it isn't true.

I live where I live, but my interactions are with others in a similar minded nearby town; so when the "talk" starts about us, which it does sometimes because we are definitely not "from" here, and everything we order online goes right through gossip station central at the post office, I have heard the most amazing things I never knew about us, lol. The postman who delivers from one nearby city to our local box assured the other postmaster that we were "living in sin" and not married, because he has seen all our mail which is delivered, and my last name is NOT the same as my alleged "husband's" last name. Duh, yep, we have different last names, and yeah, duh, we've been married 28++ years now.

But can you believe there are still people so clueless that they believe if you don't share the same last name, you can't possibly truly be married to each other? And coming from the guy who delivers your mail?

I hope the Monegans slaughter Sarah Palin's ability to retain her governership and tag her reputation as it should be tagged. He has seemed like nothing but a decent guy, who held his own counsel while under fire in the national spotlight no less, and I cross my fingers that he regains his good reputation at the expense of Sarah's going down the tube.

16. Oh! Thanks for the photo -
I like her personality just from seeing that sign - didn't know it also said "and I love him".

You go, Mrs. Monegan - stay strong and fiesty until Sarah Palin gets her just reward in this mess.

the wrong guy to pick on and I'm thrilled he's living up to that feeling I had from reading all this via Blue's reports and mudflats:bounce:

Go Walt Monegan! If he could know how many are pulling for him down in the lower 48, too:toast::patriot:

14. Abuse of power or greed doesn't originate in D.C. it transfers there when
we allow it.

Kicked and recommended.

Thanks for the thread, Blue_In_AK

24. I thought the abuse of power and greed originated from ...
... the mysterious (R) that appears next to some people's names in print. At least, to me, it seems the two always go together.

21. Nice. Kudos and Comment....
Point 1. Kudos On the post.
Excellent post by by Blue_In_AK, who effectively quotes and links to
Andrew Halcro's well-written blog for breaking news and some pretty sensible
analysis. facts, supported by links to authoritative sources (so they can
be checked), with intelligent analysis.

Blue_In_AK (and Halcro) have succinctly hit the heart of the complaint with
their selective quotes. now we are talking journalism!

(Who needs neo-whacks and that wipe Murdoch?
Ans: Nobody! Into the trashcan of history with them!)

Point 2. On the "troopergate" watch.
Remember, this is a personnel board claim related to EMPLOYMENT.
They have certain authority, but not plenary authority to resolve all matters.
Courts of law serve that purpose.

This is an expected prelude, an opening salvo, to further legal action
against Palin. And it looks like Monegan has hired a good lawyer.

Thus, for those who think this "troopergate" deal is done, don't pack up yet.
That was just the previews. Things are just getting started.

So keep that popcorn a'coming.

has essentially said, "Bring it on!" The story isn't up yet on their website but I'll link it in here when it is. This is shaping up to be epic.
