I'd rather Repukes talk about ACORN than Wright and Khalidi ... |
|
Let's face it, Republicans have no message to talk to voters about, so they are going to be spending the last few weeks of the campaign trying to stoke voter anger. That being the case, I'd just as soon they talk about ACORN than about Wright, Khalidi or some other topic that has more power to stoke racist anger.
They are no doubt setting the stage for voter challenges, but I really don't see that as being an issue unless they convince huge numbers of voters to change their mind in the last few weeks. It wouldn't even be close at this point. So all things considered, I say let Drudge, Fox and Limbaugh spend their time talking about ACORN- that's not as bad for Obama as some other things I can think of, and when you're 7-8 points behind like McCain, every day is crucial.

1. Yeah but in the tiny ignorant mind of many people a "black man" (biracial) can only win by cheating. |

That each individual attack is "weak", but after a while some voters get a "lot of smoke, must be fire" impression.
I think they are doing it too slowly, though. They should be rolling the attacks more rapidly than a countermessage can catch up to them.
So, while Obama surrogates are saying "he was eight years old" with respect to Ayers, the current McCain smear is "Wright". And then when "Wright" is being addressed, the smear is "Odinga"... and so on.
Maybe the problem is that they don't have enough of them to keep rolling to November 4th, so they are running the staging too slowly.
Either way, it is clear that independents are persuadables aren't being moved by it. If they were that easy to sway, they'd have made up their minds by now. People have real world concerns and want to hear things of substance that matter directly to them.

6. The GOP goes after ACORN every election.. |
|
they can't have these people voting. That is way more important than Reverend Wright.

7. I agree sort of, but there are problems |
|
for one thing, many comments I've seen on various sites do discuss ACORN in very racist tones, and are full of bad information.
I do find it funny (almost) to suddenly hear the right whine about how they are concerned for election integrity! Of course, they just don't get it - they think Mickey Mouse will show up to vote - and provide ID I assume, but never once question the voting machines being owned by one company.
Ugh. The sad part: even if there's a blowout, we're going to have to listen to them whine and whine and say it was stolen. I'd be a LOT more sympathetic if they had not made fun of me and told me to "get over it" a few years ago.
