I did exactly that, and found it. Duh. Seems so easy, but I was putting in the full question and couldn't find it before. There is another stupid email going around that blames stuff that happened in 1999 for the economic crisis of today. You know the rest, how the right thinks..... 1999, Clinton was president, must have been his fault. I just wanted the actual numbers of congress and the senate. Both republican majority.

Senate Majority Leader and the Speaker of the House.
Though I suppose that it's possible in days long past that a Speaker or SML was from a non-majority party... (even today, one could make the case that the Senate is not majority Democratic)

1952-1954 was mostly known for Senator Joseph McCarthy's witchhunts against alleged "communists".
