Marc Ambinder says the new CBSNews/NYTIMES poll to be released "will spur a lot of discussion".....
I'm not sure that's good news. A nice Obama lead would be par for the course so is he hinting it's good for McCain?

CBS News and the New York Times have a big new poll out tonight, with the head-to-head numbers released at 6:30 ET. The poll will spur a lot of discussion....

The news networks have released a teaser of sorts: nearly 90% of Americans think the country is headed on the wrong track; seven percent thing it is headed in the right direction. That's half of what it was a month ago.

Based on the teaser...it sounds like it should be good for Obama
It could spur a lot of discussion because it has Obama ahead BIG. When the national average for Obama's lead is in the single-digits but outside the margin of error.

90% of the country thinks we're on the wrong track...that's not good news for McJoke!! LOL

7. "90% of Americans think the country is headed on the wrong track"
and nearly half of them are going to fall for letting it continue unabated.

I'm sorry, but people piss me off sometimes. I don't really care if someone votes for whomever, as long as it is for a factually based reason, and is an informed decision. Sure, I'd rather people did not vote GOP, but if they are extremely wealthy or racists, I suppose that's their right to feel represented. For the poor and misinformed (ie: their base), I just don't get it. They revel and wallow in being ignorant assholes who base their vote on absolute falsehoods, then act hurt when you finally get sick of it.

Sorry. </rant>

13. Most people are partisan to their core
They can't bring themselves to admit they were wrong, so instead come up with tons of weak excuses to justify their irrational decision-making from the start. Look at the old battles we used to wage on the internet against Bush defenders. Even when it's clear they're in the wrong, they still stubbornly persist...even if it's against their interest. It's weird.

Wrong Track Indicator Hits Another All-Time High
Posted by Vaughn Ververs| Comments86

A new CBS News/New York Times poll finds that 89 percent of Americans believe that country is on the wrong track, a new all-time high surpassing the 83 percent who said the same earlier this year. Just seven percent of Americans in the poll said they felt the country was headed in the right direction, down from 14 percent in September. Solid majorities of Republicans, Democrats and Independents agreed that the nation is on the wrong track.

The right direction/wrong track number is a key indicator of the mood of the country and just three weeks from Election Day is further evidence of the economic crisis that has rattled the presidential race. The poll was conducted Friday through Monday, mostly following last week’s historic drop in the stock market. Previous polls have shown voters are more confident in Barack Obama’s ability to improve the economy and both candidates have recently unveiled new proposals aimed at easing concerns.

The full CBS News/New York Times poll will be released at 6:30 ET tonight. Tune into the CBS Evening news and check back here at CBSNews.com for full results.

It's in line with the other polls out there. Obama leading by more than 10% and closer to 13% WOULD be a cause for discussion. Remember, this isn't a daily tracking poll.

26. "The answer may surprise you."
That's the tease line they always use on NBC news. The news shows all need to have a teaser, just to get you to tune in.

So whether there's anything in the poll to "spur a lot of discussion" or not, they have to hype it just the same.

28. I don't see how anyone can look at that statement as for or against Obama.
You could make an argument for both.

Maybe it's something else in the poll, like Obama holding a solid lead in who will lead better on terrorism. Or maybe Americans saying they're tired of the dirty campaign McCain is running.

34. I got these numbers on their site:
"The surveys also indicate that Obama is significantly more trusted on economic issues than McCain. In Wisconsin, 53 percent said Obama "better understands the economy" while just 32 percent chose McCain. The numbers were not much better in Michigan (52 percent Obama/35 percent McCain), Minnesota (49/34) or Colorado (51/39)."

It's an article on CBS news saying he's widening his lead to double digits.

So, I can't see how the numbers could be bad-

56. This is great!!
From your link:

Obama is widely seen as running the more positive campaign: Sixty-one percent of those surveyed say McCain is spending more time attacking his opponent than explaining what he would do as president. Just 27 percent say the same of Obama.

McCain's favorable rating has fallen four points from last week, to 36 percent, and is now lower than his 41 percent unfavorable rating. Obama, by contrast, is now viewed favorably by half of registered voters and unfavorably by just 32 percent.

I've said all along people are tired of the mud slinging. McCain/Palin have buried themselves with their mud.
