My DH is voting Obama, however he listens to RW radio & came home to tell me this... |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 03:55 PM by NotThisTime
Clarification, DH = Dear Husband, or as someone else said Disinformed Husband LOL...
OK, every day it's the same thing... he comes home to tell me what the Right Wing crap of the day is, and then asks me to give him the truth.
I do this everyday, because I know he truly wants Change and he sees the problems we are in. But he's DRIVING ME CRAZY.
Today the RW says that Obama told a plumber that his taxes would go up so he could spread the wealth. And that Barack's tax plan gives money back to people who don't work so we'd be a welfare state, and the third topic of the day, that the difference between making 245K-250K a year is 35K, so people will work under the table when they get to 250K.
Unbelievable :( Why does he do this to me.... I'm tired of refuting every right wing piece of crap that's said.... On the other hand DH doesn't care about Wright or Obama being a Muslim (he knows he isn't)
I'm sure others here go through the same crap at home..

Don't refute it all yourself - refer him to www.FactCheck.org, www.snopes.com, etc. SHOW him how the RW lies out of both sides of its mouth, and ask, "why do you believe a single word they say?"

12. My dear, sweet mother... |

(rest her soul), who was the most liberal and well-informed person I think I've ever known used to listen to Rush, watch Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, the whole nine yards. She'd call me ranting and raving about what they said. One time, I asked why she listened to them when they made her so angry and, without skipping a beat, she shot back, "Well SOMEONE has to keep an eye on what THOSE PEOPLE are doing!"
Mom passed in late 1999, and for most of the last eight years, I've said over and over, "Oh, thank God Mom isn't around to see this"...Bush's first term, 9/11, the 2004 election... This year, I find myself wishing she were here...we'd be having the best phone calls right about now! :D

29. I TOTALLY ADMIT TO WATCHING RUSH.. |
|
I can't help myself.. I only do it in 3 - 4 minute bursts.. i can't go much longer then that. And, I end up screaming at the radio.. and cursing like a mad-woman.. but I do listen sometimes because it's like watching a train-wreck.
I love to hear the RW justify and pander to every stupid thing that's going wrong. Honestly, if we were behind in the polls.. i probably wouldn't listen, but I like to hear them sputter and talk over themselves and stare in AWE about what is happening and how their bs games didn't work (operation Chaos MY ASS). :)
I know i'm contributing to his advertising and hence, his $400,000,000 salary.. but I just can't stop. It's like crack.

there was video but no audio it was when obama was walking around that neighborhood knocking on doors. the plumber was just on fox news and he said "redistribution of wealth", which tells me he is likely a hannity or rush listener and wasnt voting for obama anyway.

I suppose a plumber with employees could make $250,00 gross, but if he nets $250,000... I'm not so sure. And also is the $250,000 after deductions (agi)?

|
That's why Obama's $250,000 is actually very generous as business goes. Someone could be running a multimillion dollar business and end up under $250,000 as their profit.

Funny how they never phrase it that way when it's tax cuts for the rich.
In that case, the meme is "let you keep more of your hard-earned money".
Do rich people put money to better use than poor people?

39. He's wrong on the difference in taxes. RW radio lies. |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 07:48 AM by seasat
What he heard was a lie. Under Obama's tax plan at 250k the marginal tax rate goes up from 34% to 39%. What that means is you pay the same tax as everyone else on lower parts of your income but you pay a higher tax on every dollar above that level. That means that after all the deductions if you still have an income of over 250k you will pay the higher rate on each dollar above 250k. The difference in tax from 245k to 250k is 0.34 * $5000 = $1,700 and the difference in tax from 250k to 255k is $1,950 under Obama's proposal.
I have no idea where they came up with the 35k difference tax number. It sounds like posterior postulation to me. Even if you wrongly apply those rates to the full income, then you only get a difference of $14,200 not 35k.
The other point is that if the plumber's business has total revenues of 280,000, like he estimated, then he likely will not be taxed at the higher rate. He will likely pay an even lower rate than he does now because Obama's plan for small businesses includes several generous deductions like lower capital gains taxes. He'll likely have enough deductions that he'll never reach the 250k marginal rate for his net income.
