5. Walter Annenberg and his sister asked William Ayers to join the board. The Annenbergs
support you for president and were friends with Ronald Reagan. Are you going to accuse the Annenbergs of 'paling with terrorists' because of their association with Ayers?

6. Republicans for Obama have this reported on their site..
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 03:54 PM by zidzi
"William Ayers funded by Republcans"

The Annenbergs– Republicans. Bankrolled William Ayers with $50 million

But Walter and Leonore weren’t just giving money to educational foundations started by William Ayers. They were also giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Republican National Committee and various other Republican groups, as well as to a whole host of Republican candidates, including the following:

George W. Bush $4000
Mitt Romney $5000
Strom Thurmond $1000
Fred Thompson $500
Rick Santorum $3000
Rick Santorum– former Republican Senator. Received $3000 from Ayers’ backers.

Why would billionaire Republican philanthropists give millions of dollars to a program that was working with William Ayers? Why would George W., Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and all those other Republicans accept money from the people who were funding this William Ayers-associated group? Why won’t McCain discuss these connections between the Republican Party and Ayers?

Here’s the icing on the cake: just yesterday, the McCain campaign put out a press release bragging about the fact that Leonore Annenberg has endorsed him for president. Yes, you heard it– a McCain backer bankrolled William Ayers with millions of dollars.

More icing: You know that Republican Arnold Weber I mentioned earlier? The one that served on the board of the CAC with Barack? Not only did he work with William Ayers in the 90’s, he has also donated at least $1000 to the McCain campaign. That’s right– McCain is accepting money from associates of William Ayers, and so far has not given the money back."

33. Susan Douglass was on Late Edition on Sunday with that ugly Nicole Phuckface, or whatever
her name is who works as a McCoward lobbyist (financial advisor). The Phuckface went straight away to William Ayers. Susan Douglass' answers were horrible. Obama really needs to train some of his surrogates on these shows how to respond to these attacks. Douglass stated that Ayers never donated to Obama. That's not true. He donated $200 to Obama's IL Senate run. Even if Douglass didn't know what she was saying, the story of William Ayers is not difficult to understand.

We all need to be armed with quick responses on this issue because the Rethugs have been practicing their talking points so much and repeating them so much that people are beginning to accept them as truth.

The story, however, is simple:

Walter Annenberg, former Ambassor to England, appointed by Ronald Reagan and his sister Leonore started the Annenberg Group which addresses various economic and social problems. They asked William Ayers to sit on their board which addresses public education problems in the inner city of Chicago. Obama sat on the same board. They have met but are NOT friends. The Annenbergs know Bill Ayers very well. They are also staunch conservative Republicans, as are most of the members who sit on that board. They have endorsed McCoward and many other Republicans.

It's as simple as that! Why isn't Obama explaining this well enough? Why aren't his surrogates??!?!?

7. Keating 5 question for clarification

Isn't there a connection to McCain and Ayers and that Annenberg guy?

And,maybe he could briefly explain what Ayers was doing when he was 8 years old and what he was doing when McShame was hugging Keating.

13. He won't bring it up. Doesn't want the truth widely known.
Prefers to have the suspicions swilling around unanswered instead.

But not to be total buzzkill, I'd say:

Have you shared your concerns with the Republican Annenberg family that has funded Ayers for years now? Have you urged your fellow republicans to return the Annenberg donations to their campaigns?

18. It's easy... the "bogus standard" reversal...

Obama says that if McCain took the same standard by which he categorizes Obama and Ayers as "pals" and turned it on himself, then one could say that McCain is "pals" with white supremacists and anti-semites (WACL), secessionists and traitors (AIP), racists (his rallies), felons (Keating), and people who said America's policies towards gays caused 9/11 (Robertson/Falwell).

Gives Obama an excuse to mention all those people WHILE still saying it's a bogus standard. If McCain wants to distance himself from those nuts, he has to distance Obama from Ayers. Checkmate.

Then he should hit him back with the fact that the Annenbergs, McCain donors, seemed to also support this 'unrepentant terrorist.'

25. Obama should calmly recount his (non) relationship with Bill Ayers. And then say,
"now that we are explaining our associations, how about if you explain your relationship with G. Gordon Liddy, who in 1994 told his radio audience to shoot federal agents in the head.

27. I want his response to shut down any meme about being friends with Ayers
And then after that fact is firmly established, then he can get into cutesy stuff about how deeply tied the rethugs are to Ayers. First things first--his initial response cannot shift or spread blame--it must clearly shut down any idea that he is friends with Ayers and show that McShame is a worthless liar.

36. "Senator McCain, when I was 8 years old Bill Ayers and others
performed unfortuante, heinous acts in a misguided attempt to end a divisive war that was tearing this nation apart. I had nothing to do with any of those actions.

Many years later I became associated with Bill Ayers as we shared an interest in benefitting our community through service. Since his association with me, Mr. Ayers has been involved with educating at risk, poor children. He has helped to house poverty stricken families and fed many of Chicago's hungry, particularly children. Since we have been working together, DR. Ayers has been cited for his admirable, charitable work and was even recognized as Chicago's Citizen of the Year.

Before me, Dr. Ayers may have been a scoundrel but our association has turned him into a stellar citizen. I hope and intend to change this nation in the same way. Before my administration the nation is careening out of control. I will see to it that, with hard work and committment, I will also turn this nation around."

Cue thunderous applause and cheers. <McCain skulks off stage>.

37. Obama cool and composed "My friend, you're right to question my judgement...
...because you said at the start, you're going to run a fair campaign based on issues but I was wrong about you. I see you're happy to run a smear campaign against your opponent instead of talking about issues that really mattered to American people like economy, health care, veterans issue. Well, you don't even utter the two words "middle class" and you've been anything but erratic, so I shouldn't be too surprised either. (to the camera) I was 8 years old when the incident happened, McCain wants to hold 8 year old Obama responsible for it. It's just plain silly. I just happened to serve on this Board with Ayers along with 20 other people, including republicans, to improve education for young Americans. Anyway, I'm not in touch with Ayers for a long time and I'll never be in touch. Also I despise terrorist foreign and domestic, and denounce all acts of terrorism. I'm running for President to protect Americans against such terrorists. (to McCain) John, If you don't have any *specific* questions about this can we talk about issues that will make difference to American people.
