Is this September 2004 or is this September 1968 ?? |
|
An unpopular war coming to a head. People marching in the streets. An unpopular president making promises to the people that many knew were lies but many fell for like Republican suckers. More people died. Assassinations. Impeachment. Division in the nation. Anyone else see the parallel?

1. I've seen the parallels for some time... |
|
Not that the outcome of that election got us out of the Vietnam quagmire very soon.
Really killed me that I couldn't vote that year, but was just 20 and it was before they changed the voting age.

2. I sure hope the election result is different this time! |
|
I guess it's because I'm older now, but I think more people are outraged at the President this time, and it may not be a vote for a Pug, but a vote for change.

was in Johnson's Admin. The war was considered the Dem's war.

4. A good thing about the polls |
|
I think it tends to keep Kerry safer from assassination before the election.

...their signs say "Invade Iraq" and "Bomb N. Korea".
Hmmm..wonder what would happen to South Korea if N. Korea had a nuke dropped on it. Ahh...we can't worry about that I guess.

We're such exemplary allies. ;) Someone should photoshop a "moran" on one of those signs...

6. As an "oldster" I have been noting the similarity for some time.. |
|
I even made the observation that the political comedians are becoming the folk-singers of our times, getting out our "message"...sent that observation to our local rag, and many, many people wrote in to compare these times with the 60's.
However, then, we had a constant reporting of casualties, body bags, coffins, and the war was fought on TV in our living rooms. People got sick of the carnage and took to the streets. Today, Rove, being the evil genius he is, will not let that visibility happen again. I would wish MoveOn would dare to show the FACE of American casualties in Iraq.
These times just have the same "feeling" as the Vietnam Years, doesn't it? Eerie. Bizarro world, indeed.
