Poll question: Would You Vote For Chris Matthews For Senate If You Lived In Pennsylvania? |
|
There's a rumor he's going to run in a few years. If you lived in the state, would you vote for him against Arlen Spector?

50. I will WORK AGAINST him in the primary ... |
|
He has found religion over the last two months or so, his inner democrat, but I have a LONG memory, and most of my Mathews memory is filled with him sucking republican butt and marginalizing Ds.
I WILL work against him in the primary.
But, he is likely to win.
In the general, I won't support him, but I will vote for him.

Anything is better than Arlen Spector... but, who knows who else will be running at that time. IF he ended up being the DEMOCRATIC nominee, yes, I would vote for him.

he worked for Tip O'Neil. He's CLEARLY on Obama's side in this race. His interviews with ANY Republican spokesman are some of the hardest-hitting interviews you'll find on tv.

|
Could be wrong.
However, I have felt for several years that Chris has been Republican through and through. I do think he is changing back for Barack, mostly because Chris' children are Barack supporters.

This year, he attended the PA Democratic delegation breakfast during the Democratic convention and caused quite a stir. The delegates gave him a standing ovation. :)

You have to understand, Arlen was typically so much saner than Santorum. And he's pro-choice. Most PA Dems running for Senate are hardly ever pro-choice.

he often bucks party trends. Unfortunately in the history of our state, other than the Governor, moderate Republicans were often more liberal on social issues than SOME of the Dems.
Obviously feminists like me care that he's pro-choice, and pro-Stem cell research and supports other social issues. I'm just saying that's that is how a lot of Pennsylvanians feel.

Which, despite the various things for and against him posted here, we really don't know.
Nobody is happy at DU unless everyone on TV is a partisan. Chris draws out a variety of opinions from people, and people mistake "understanding" for "agreement".
But I have no idea what, at bottom, he believes, and I don't think anyone else here could fairly say they do.

no one here views him as a Pennsylvanian really. He has that phony "I'm from Philly" meme - talks about rizzo, cheesesteaks, Northeast Philly, Mayor Green, various US attorneys who've served here...but there is not one person in this area he resembles...even his accent is not really Philadelphian. He is an emigrant...
His bro is the most unpopular Repub in the Delaware Valley - he is the 3rd member of a triumvirate with one Dem, former House member Hoeffel with whom he made a deal. He's not a bad sort as Rethugs go around here.

Specter is NOT in good health. I suspect Arlen will be the next big name to retire when his time for re-election comes up. The man is 78 years old and survived some serious cancer. If Matthews is thinking of running it's because he knows that Specter will be retired and the seat is opened.
And all I can say is thank god I'm in Blue Delaware!
