Food for thought: Reagan's popular vote margin in 1980 over Carter was 9.74%
But the Electoral Vote margin was 489-49. If Nate Silver is correct (disregarding some larger margins like the new CBS) and the current margin is about 8% and climbing toward 9% this may well be an electoral vote blowout. 8-9 % is a HUGE margin.

GOP does have some built in EC advantages so it will be nothing like 1980 if this holds up over the next three weeks. But 364 to as high as 406 is not out of the question for Obama with an 8-9% popular vote margin.
