19. Lol. No way. The reason why Jackson and even Harold Ford slip
up and make bitter comments every now and then is because they know there will only be one black president in this century. The next major change will be a democratic woman.

40. "There will only be one black president in this century" What, are we on a quote system now?
Let me explain something to you: We don't elect black presidents in this country. We elect the best candidate to be president. Obama hasn't opened up the field one bit--the voters of this country did all the real work--listening and tuning into the best man for the job and not being put off by a 19th century standard for electability.

Obama is not our token black president. He's gonna be our president, period.

Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 06:54 PM by Sebastian Doyle
Anyone who can't remember what life was like before the Bush Crime Family got back in the White House could tell you that.

And there's also this to consider...... did you know who Barack Obama was 8 years ago? Hell, did you know who Sarah Palin was 8 weeks ago?

The frontrunner for 2016 may well be someone you haven't even heard of right now. I don't think it's very likely that we'll go from President Obama, who will be only in his mid 50's then, to someone who's just on either side of 70, but who knows?

We have a lot more serious shit to worry about between now and then.

28. It could easily be a governor elected in 2010
The most likely potential candidates for president in 2016 (on both sides of the aisle) will be senators elected this year or in 2006 and governors elected in 2010.

So if Democrats take back the California governorship in 2010, if it's Gavin Newsom or Steve Garamendi or Antonio Villaraigosa, they'll be top prospects. Ir Pennsylvania's governorship stays in Dem hands, that person will be a frontrunner. If the Illinois governorship stays in Dem hands in 2010, that person will be a frontrunner.

My predictions for 2016: the field will include...

* Gov. Lisa Madigan of Illinois (currently state Attorney General)
* Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island
* Sen. Beau Biden of Delaware (he'll be elected to his father's seat in 2010, get reelected in 2014, and could then launch a bid)
* Brian Schweitzer (he'll complete his gubernatorial term and perhaps take a cabinet position -- Secretary of Energy or EPA Administrator in a second Obama term should there be one).
* Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota
* Gov. Gavin Newsom of California (a BIG if, since there are lots of top California Dems salivating at the governor's mansion)

46. Not a single person in the world would have guessed correctly
I suspect even Barack Obama would have thought you were insane if you suggested that the Democratic presidential nominee in 2008 would be a then-39-year-old state senator who had just been crushed in his bid for the House, whose marriage was on the rocks, whose credit card was maxed out and who couldn't even get a floor pass at the DNC.

And if you suggested after 9/11 that the next U.S. president would be a progressive Democrat who was a black man of Muslim ancestry with a Swahili-Arabic name you would have been dismissed as a naive dreamer.

He will be older then McLame now though I bet he will be a much younger 73/74 than McLame's ancient 72. He has been in the Senate since he was 29 so I think he will be ready to retire after 43 years in politics. I think its Hillary and everybody else.

Biden will be too old and will likely want to retire.

If you tried to make the same kind of prediction in 2000 about who would have ran in 2008, you likely would have been wrong (at least for the Democrats).

I agree with what others have said, let's win this one first.
