Most Surprising State
There has been a lot of good news with polls lately.

I've been surprised by several states, particularly Indiana and North Carolina. Both haven't voted for the Democratic candidate in 30-40 years or more. To go from Indiana voting for Bush by 21% to Obama being close to winning is something most people would have never thought possible.

Which state has surprised you the most?

1. Florida...
I had completely written off Florida earlier in the year. I can't believe we are up in all the polls now!

3. Seconded
Although I have renewed pride in North Carolina, where I once worked on Harvey Gantt's campaign against Jesse Helms and his racist thugs and saw the *WORST* of what America has to offer.

It's extremely surprising to me that a majority of people anywhere could be voting for McCain

I suspect that ND will go back to being Red, but hell it would be nice for it to stay Blue.

4. This Hoosier thanks you for the vote!
We've been canvassing our tails off around here and we can't let up now!

I think our late primary, along w/ that of No. Carolina has helped matters immensely!

5. My cousin and her husband live there
They'll be visiting in a few weeks and I'll see who they're leaning toward. My cousin I think would be voting for Obama but her husband is more conservative so I'm not sure about him. If they say McCain, I'll try to give a little push toward Obama :)

8. All I've got to say is there are a few weeks left ...
And time to put a few of those leaners into blue territory. GA, NC and IN I feel like could totally be in the blue by Nov. 4th.

I think, what happens at the debate tomorrow could be pretty interesting ... and pivotal in some of those battlegrounds.

10. Ohio, for still being close. What the hell is WRONG with those people?
Maybe I'm doing a double standard--but goddammit the Republicans have just ruined the rust belt.

Obama was almost right--people in the industrial north are clinging to their dumbs.

19. That's what I can't understand. With what they've gone through!
It shouldn't be close. It should be at least + 15 for Obama in Ohio.

29. I hope you are wrong
It would just be nice to win Ohio. Ohio was so close last time and Obama is performing so much better than Kerry did in most states. It would be surprising to me if Obama can win Indiana but not Ohio. Hopefully Ohio will come around :)

30. I hope I am wrong too
It's just that it seems like Ohio never goes our way :(

But I think we can pull of wins in Indiana, Utah, Tennessee, West Virginia and Idaho so we might not need Ohio :)

St.Clairsville this afternoon about 1500 people came out (on a work day), great speech. I couldn't make it myself I was on afternoon shift but watched on TV. WTOV TV ran an online poll on who we would vote for and Obama got 55% McCain 45%. This after both VP candidates visited here this week Palin was here Sunday they claim 7000 showed up to hear her venom. I wish we could get Obama to come here I am sure it would help him a lot in Ohio, WV and PA. Everyone here on DU seem to think people in SE Ohio are racist and stupid, you are wrong this area is 2-1 registered Democrat and we are hurting for a change. Obama ignore this area in the primaries and this is where Hillary got her votes.

on edit: I think we will take WV too especially if Obama makes an appearance.

You'd feel that way if you listened to our AM radio stations. For a blue state, we have nothing but right wing garbage...

That's the benefit of deregulation in a "Ownership Society"

14. There's another surprise inside that Christmas stocking yet...

The shock of North Carolina is wearing off, but I have a feeling there will be another BIG surprise.

Dunno which one yet. Maybe WV, maybe something else.

25. I feel greedy hoping for Georgia...

But, yeah, that's what I mean by "one other one" aside from WV (which the United Mine Workers is going all out for).

That would be a peach indeed.

But I will be absolutely thrilled if North Carolina shows us their stuff.

22. Definately NDakota. Grew up there & I cannot recall it ever being blue.
Very conservative but they LOVE their homegrown Senators Dorgan & Conrad.
If the current republican gov were to run for Senate he may come cloe to Dorgan or Conrad, but a win over either one would be a suprise.

Perhaps this is a sign of the "NEXT" generation coming of age, a sort of a passing of the torch.
Or perhaps 8 years of Bush and the recent bailout issue has pushed people beyond their family's political loyalty.
Time for a change..

27. Indiana being a swing state is KKKKK...CRRRRAZZZZY
I'd have thought that Texas would have had ENOUGH about 10-20 years ahead of the Hoosiers. Death would beat Taxes by a 5-1 margin in Indiana in most years. I guess they have a sense of practicality and pragmatisim.

Ohio is also needs to wake up. There should be an outcry to make all elected Republicans war criminals in that state. Ohio should be more blue than San Francisco right about now due to what the Republiscum have done.

28. NC is not surprising to me - I live here and volunteer for the local Obama
campaign. I see first hand the amount of effort put into turning NC blue.

I also worked for the Kerry campaign in 2004 and there is no comparison. Obama's campaign is not just focusing on the larger cities and counties that tend to vote Dem - they are even reaching into small very red towns. It is amazing.

For example in my little town: Tomorrow evening is canvassing and then a debate watching party. Thursday is the first day of early voting and there is a breakfast meet-up and then everyone is going to go vote - to be one of the first to vote for Obama in our county!!!

Obama is in it to win it!
