Why I will vote for John Kerry |

I have carried around a dream of a more just society for many years. I believe that many should have some instead of a few having all. I guess I am not a capitalist. I have no problem with people enjoying what they earn or others having more than I have. However, I don’t understand the kind of mentality that thinks its okay to live in a house of 7000 square feet knowing full well that there are people who don’t have a roof over their head. I don’t understand a person who thinks he is more worthy because he is paid $150.00 an hour for the same number of hours of work as someone who is paid $7.00 an hour is. I don’t understand people who think nothing of paying for plastic surgery but never give a thought to the person who can’t pay for a Band-Aid.
I have never liked GWB. I didn’t like Ronald Reagan. I believe the last Republican I liked was Jim Jeffords. I voted for Al Gore and was against this war from day one.
This is my preamble because I want you to know where I come from politically and socially.
I was thrilled when Howard Dean came out with both fists ablaze and was disappointed that he was felled by false reporting. I didn’t feel comfortable about John Kerry for many reasons but I knew that I would vote for him when he became our nominee because he was the only alternative for me.
So, I have watched him. Watched him speaking, interacting with his family and friends, with strangers, working the crowds at the campaign stops and I like what I see. I may not agree with all of his positions but I feel good about him as a man. I feel he is a caring and concerned listener. I like the way he stops to talk with people. I like the way he looks each person in the eye. I like the fact that a woman like Theresa Heinz Kerry would chose to spend the rest of her life with him. I like the fact that he has raised such fine children and that his stepchildren seem genuinely fond of him.
No, I may not agree with him on all things but I think he will take the things that I care about into consideration and I think that if I wrote him about an issue, he would listen to what I was concerned about and ponder it with intellect and heart.
I think we are in good hands.
