"This is what keeps African-Americans from joining the Republican Party,"
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 08:35 PM by CatWoman
I decided to reinstate the headline

The latest newsletter by an Inland Republican women's group depicts Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama surrounded by a watermelon, ribs and a bucket of fried chicken, prompting outrage in political circles.

The October newsletter by the Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated says if Obama is elected his image will appear on food stamps -- instead of dollar bills like other presidents. The statement is followed by an illustration of "Obama Bucks" -- a phony $10 bill featuring Obama's face on a donkey's body, labeled "United States Food Stamps."

The GOP newsletter, which was sent to about 200 members and associates of the group by e-mail and regular mail last week, is drawing harsh criticism from members of the political group, elected leaders, party officials and others as racist.

Sheila Raines, an African-American member of the club, was the first person to complain to Fedele about the newsletter. Raines, of San Bernardino, said she has worked hard to try to convince other minorities to join the Republican Party and now she feels betrayed.

"This is what keeps African-Americans from joining the Republican Party," she said. "I'm really hurt. I cried for 45 minutes."

stuff to know that republicans don't give a shit about black people. How dumb!

You think a fish won't swim? You think birds won't fly? You think Republicans won't be racist, sexist, classist assholes? I mean, come on.

20. I don't mean to blame her, but it's just frustrating that she spent time and energy trying to
legitimatize the racist Republican party to her minority acquaintances.

It's like Log Cabin Republicans -- :wtf: Might as well start a "Chickens for Colonel Sanders" group.

45. I think it's pretty reasonable to wonder what the hell such a person is thinking.
The Republican Party coalition has long clung to the racist Southern Strategy, yet people like Ms. Raines are surprised when the Madison Avenue facade the GOP has overlaid on racism is occasionally penetrated and the underlying ugliness lurches into public display.

It becomes a habit. You forget after awhile that such behavior is totally unacceptable to the vast majority of people outside your tiny circle of associates.

17. Interesting comment on the blog
"I am white, Christian, a mother of two, a native Southerner, and the Republicans have finally lost my vote - for ANY Republican - for good. I am truly ashamed, not just of this reprehensible action, but of the many, many, divisive, racist, and even violent comments I've seen from Republicans during this election. When did we come to this? Never again, indeed."

18. Even repuke ilk like Armstrong Williams was whining
about how few AAs were in attendance at this year's RNC nominating convention. A http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-06-14-black-republicans_N.htm">whole plethora were bemoaning their outcast state. There were only 36 AA delegates this year as opposed to 167 (according to this: http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/09/for_gop_its_a_whiter_shade_of.html) in 2004.

Time for them to WAKE UP! The, neocons, theocrats, and Ku Klux Klan, long suppressed and marginalized by the other repuke wings, have found an in and have taken over their party!

36. Posted this on another thread, but people who've seen Paul Mooney know what happened:
Sheila got her "nigger wake-up call". Crude but true (and I'm black and I totally get Paul Mooney).

It brings to mind another line from Chris Rock's latest show 'Kill the Messenger': The thing that makes him maddest about racism is black people who are surprised that it exists.

43. I could not agree more with Chris Rock on this one...
If after Hurricane Katrina and many of the OUTRIGHT racist things said by Republicans didn't wake Black people in the Republican Party up... What the fuck? I mean, really? She's surprised? It took a damn cartoon to make her realize the truth. Sadly this fool will probably crawl right back to them. I'm always surprised when other Black people question racism -- where the hell have they been?

And you are so right.

My dad is the same fucking way, but he's dumber than a box of rocks and has always had that old school plantation mentality. So I'm not really surprised he keeps on voting R despite being a poor, sick old black man in the South. At this point I just attribute it to dementia.

It's not the fact that they engage in blatantly racist behavior, it's that they're so god damn lazy and stupid that they can't even be creative with their bigotry. It's that tired old shit from like, the '30s. Chicken and watermelon? Really, racist douchebags? That's seriously the best you can come up with? It's like, if you're going to be a knuckledragging racist, think outside the box a little. Diversify your stereotypes, assholes! Throw a Flav clock around his neck or something next time. God, they're stupid.
