What I noticed about McCain at the Smith dinner was the |
|
difference in his body language. When a person is telling jokes they are NOT LYING-just telling jokes, the difference showed.

His body language says it all. He was less uptight, he blinked a lot less, and his cheeks weren't even as big!

4. but did he stick his tongue out? |
|
yes, they say folks who lie blink more. Speaking of tongues, if you missed the thread about photoshoping McCain's wagging tongue ala afte last night's debate, you gotta see it. So many creative people here in DU. Here's a little teaser: and a larger one: The Biggy is here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7479912

3. Larry King said he thought it sounded like a |
|
concession speech from McCain.
Bill Maher said he didn't think so, but that McCain ought to be looking for someone to write one for him!

8. I also thought that McCain sounded like he was making a concession |
|
speech. You know, he's pretty old for all the rigors of a long political campaign. He may actually be ready to "hang it up".

5. I think McCain has fallen victim to what Gore and to a degree Kerry let happen to them: |
|
He let himself get overmanaged to a script and talking points that are much too rigid, and couldn't utilize whatever natural personality strengths he had.
When this happens the insincerity and mechanical nature of delivery is obvious to all. Then the contrast is seen when the candidate is able to be spontaneous and relaxed.
When I saw "Inconvenient Truth" in the theater, where Gore related very intimate personal stories about his family and about growing up in Tennessee, I thought "where the hell was this Gore in 2000?" There was basically no sign of him in the campaign.

6. You would think these politicians learned from 2000 and 2004. |
|
Just be yourself and don't let your advisers change you. Obama has been the same from the very beginning. McCain hasn't.

7. Yes, but there is a reason for it. Especially, comparing Kerry & McCain |
|
they both have run in election years where the fundamentals were against them. 2004 was about the war on terror, where Bush was favored. 2008 is about the economy, where Obama is favored. Because of this, these candidates have to run balancing act campaigns which are very difficult to pull off. There are two differences:
1. Kerry found his voice in the fall and was superb in the debates. I don't think McCain was good at all in the debates and still hasn't found a theme for his campaign.
2. McCain decided to okay a sleazy dishonorable campaign. Kerry didn't.
I think McCain will lose badly because of his compounding mistakes in a year fundamentally against him, whereas Kerry nearly pulled it off.
