I KID YOU NOT!
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 11:54 PM by FrenchieCat
This story is in the Guardian......just like this!

Emboldened Obama to push into firmly
Republican states Buoyed by success,

Democrats to force cash-strapped McCain to defend safe areas

in New York. Photograph: Reuters

Barack Obama, emerging from the third and final debate against John McCain with his momentum unchecked, yesterday opened up new fronts in the November 4 election battle by expanding into normally bedrock Republican states. Although he warned his supporters at a fundraising breakfast in New York against becoming too cocky, the Democratic candidate is pursuing a strategy that could see him take states that George Bush won with ease in 2000 and 2004.

Obama's chief strategist, David Axelrod, said after the debate in Hempstead that Obama and his running mate, Joe Biden, were now considering visits to states such as Montana and North Dakota, once considered beyond reach. "I think it is fair to say that we are thinking of going into states we were not sure of at all earlier," said Axelrod. "Some things are opening up for us here that no one fully anticipated."

Other states coming into play include West Virginia, Kentucky and Georgia. Obama's campaign team said yesterday it would begin to broadcast new ads in these states. Even if they prove to be beyond Obama's reach, his campaigning will force the cash-strapped Republicans to spend money and effort defending states they once took for granted.

Obama, speaking before heading to a rally in New Hampshire, warned his supporters against being carried away by his poll leads and the huge amounts of cash coming in. "For those of you who are feeling giddy or cocky, or think this is all set, I just have two words for you: New Hampshire," he said. "I've been in these positions before when we were favoured and the press starts getting carried away, and we end up getting spanked." He lost the New Hampshire primary to Hillary Clinton in January, a shock result after opinion polls had credited him with big leads.

5. It's funny there's no caption
or explanation with this pic except he was looking for the right exit..does that mean he has to do some imitation of a 90 year Mick Jagger?

6. This presidential election will be the first test of the 50 state strategy...
...since Howard Dean took office as DNC Chair.

That article says Obama will run ads in Kentucky.

15. Ads have been running in Kentucky almost non-stop for some time
now. A couple of months ago it was mccain's ads that were on somewhat but now they have stopped, now Obama's add are everywhere. I have not seen any as negative as mccain's were, but there are both positive and negative ones running. They are also running steady in Missouri also. Here in Illinois I am not sure if anyone is running ads, because I have come to the point that I don't watch our couple of stations from here in our state. But in this town, the mccain yard signs are sprouting up all over. There are only a few Obama signs. The county that I use to live in was blue, but I think this one is red. :grr: Luckily our state is pretty well decided by Chicago, and I am counting on them to keep us blue.

30. No. (LOL) I am in Williamson County in Southern Illinois
Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 10:52 AM by rebel with a cause
Dupage County is way too north for where I am at. This is the Tri-State area, with the three states being Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri. St. Louis is much, much closer to me than Chicago or Springfield is. Our local and cable television stations are mostly from Missouri with a few from Kentucky and Illinois. We have two PBS stations, one from Carbondale and one from St. Louis. We are a part of the south while being part of the north. Some of our families, including part of mine, came here after the Civil War from Kentucky and Tennesse because they were given land grants by Lincoln for fighting for the North.

Williamson County is somewhere in between the enlightment of Jackson county and the backwards attitude of Franklin County.

If you are from Illinois, especially SI, you will understand exactly what I am talking about. Other wise, think between California and Colorado maybe. ;)

22. No, 2006 was the first test, and it was successful.
This is the first test of it in a Presidential race, and we're blessed with a candidate that has fully embraced it and facilitates the strategy, through incredible fund-raising and appeal.

32. Obama ran this kind of race when he ran for the Senate.
Before him, most of the candidates campaigned in the north of the state, because Chicago kind of cancels the rest of us out. That is of course with the exception of our great late Paul Simon, but he was from down state anyway.

Obama made it a point during his campaign to cover the whole state. He sat up headquarters everywhere also. Down in Carbondale, his office became the headquarters for all the Democrats but primarily it was the Obama headquarters for Southern Illinois, and it was organized and managed by his team. During the campaign season, he made at least eight or nine visits down state to meet with us and have rallies. That was unheard of! The republican headquarters was just that and Keyes finally made a trip down state also, but I tried not to take too much notice of that. :7

McCain has lost any shred of dignity in his public persona.

was pretty centrist like the BBC. The center in the UK is like the left in the USA. The right in France is like the center in the UK and the left in the USA.......

so they criticize the wrongdoings of any government, even their own Labour Party govt. In other words they do what journalists are supposed to do.

They are going to think we're even more brain dead than we were in 04 if we don't pull out all the stops and get Obama elected.

Can you imagine all of McTrolls handlers with their faces in their hands muttering, "We told him to keep his tongue in his mouth. We told him it wasn't a good look."

28. OMG! If he would come to Georgia, I swear half this state would show up!
I know my family - and I do mean my entire family - would be there! We have all voted for him and that includes my somewhat racist SIL who is from a very Republican family. I knew marrying my brother would have a good effect.

This also includes my 89 year old grandmother who isn't always the most PC person. I helped her fill out her absentee ballot and I read off every contested race to her. I asked her specifically whether she wanted to vote for Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin and she said "mark me down for the smart colored man". I know some might be offended by that, but I nearly fell out of my chair that she wanted him because he was the smartest one for the job, not just because was the Democrat and she knew I would never speak to her again if she chose McCain.
