ROBO-CALLS and "junk mail" targeting Dems only? |
|
both my partner and I are registered dems. Have been for years. We live in PA.
about two weeks ago - we started receiving robo-calls from mccain bashing Obama, last week we also received robo-calls telling us to attend palin's hate rally in scranton. We'll get at least 2 calls a day, one usually left on the answering machine, the other between 6-7 at night.
we've also received mccain-palin hate junk mail bashing obama - and it's address to our names - NOT addressed to "resident"
our neighbor and friend, who is a registered repub (but voting obama this year) has received ZERO calls and ZERO hate-junk mail. The same for the rest of our neighbor's family/in-laws - ZERO robo-calls and Zero Hate-Junk Mail (they are also voting Obama).
the robo-calls do not leave a phone number - so there's no way to contact anyone directly and complain. I'm thinking of calling the local mccain headquarters and complain there - don't know if it will do any good or not.
The hate-Junk Mail is a flyer, there is no SASE- otherwise I would just stuff everything in the envelope and send it back to them. Question - if I write RETURN TO SENDER - will the post office take it?
Anyone else receiving these calls/mail while repub neighbors/friends are not?

It seems more likely that they're trying to suppress turnout, instead of to convince people to vote for them.

2. seems to me if they were trying to supress DEM turnout |
|
the message they wouldn't say they were from GOP/McCain and bash Obama.
If you are a Dem getting GOP calls/mail, it may piss you off, but not discourage you from voting - if anything it would make you MORE likely to vote
Doesn't make any sense to annoy you with GOPer/mccain mail/calls - but then mccain isn't making much sense these days

are they required by law to state that they're calling on behalf of the GOP? It might be a similar law to the one that requires "I'm so and so and I approve this message" to accompany TV and Radio ads.

4. They are trying to target many non-base voters who they think may be undecided. Here's what you do: |
|
URGE your state Dems, local Dems, and state/local Obama people to HIT BACK HARD !! Expose the lies in your local media, and write letters to the editor. GET OUT AND WORK LIKE HELL FOR OBAMA/DEMS !! Donate, canvass, make calls (you can make calls from home), etc. etc. etc. And, like me, call the RNC and your state R party headquarters and LAMBASTE them on their horrid rotten lies. FIGHT BACK GOOD AND DAMN HARD !!

I work for USPS and what haapens to standard postage mail varies. Mail where they are not hoping for a return of a donation is probably going to end up in a waste pile to be incinerated/recycled at facility near where you return it. SOme may request return or an address change confirmation at extra cost. You might be wary of giving them some evidence you may not be residing at your current address in some initial vote caging operation.
The mailing costs them money. It benefits the post office and thus union jobs that contribute to Democratic causes. Showing it gets to you is exactly what they want since on the average a successful irrittaion campaign turns off voters to the benefit of the attacker. Researching where the mail comes from and taking the issue to the newspapers and public venues can help turn around this strategy. Meanwhile the money goes to the USPS coffers and sustains a union workforce until the modernity of electronic communications takes its natural course. Yet even those passive advantages are not enough if the sneaks ahve some way of using taxpayer money somehow. Complain to the local Republican party, media, etc.

6. Have you tried tracking that mail back to its source? |
|
The post office should be able to tell you where it came from......I think.

7. I live in VA and the RNC/McCain campaign is driving me up the wall |
|
They keep calling. So far all the robo calls have been from the RNC. They leave an 800# but it is all automated. Then I keep getting phone calls from the campaign (Victory-something...think Victory -08). They keep calling me to ask me to volunteer. I just went off on the worker the other day about them continuing to call me after I asked them to stop. I can't wait til the election is over.

have local mccain-hate campaign numbers...
as far as the hate-junk mail - will be asking other neighbors who have received it to hang on to them all. I'll collect it and drop it off at local mccain-hate headquarters
will swing by Obama office tomorrow and drop off a donation, will let them know it's because of the mccain-hate crap, and ask what I can do to help
