So Palin thinks small towns are "Pro-American" but a place like Washington DC is not?
Palin Clarifies Her 'Pro-America Areas' Remark

By Juliet Eilperin

In order to clarify comments GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin made last night at a Greensboro, N.C., fundraiser about it being in a "pro-America" area, the campaign issued a slightly more detailed version of the pool report that came out yesterday.

The upshot? Washington, D.C., is neither "real America" nor "pro-America." Other parts of the nation? It's unclear, but if you live in a small town, you're probably patriotic from Palin's point of view.

"We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. We believe" -- here the audience interrupted Palin with applause and cheers -- "We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation."

She continued: "This is where we find the kindness and the goodness and the courage of everyday Americans. Those who are running our factories and teaching our kids and growing our food and are fighting our wars for us. Those who are protecting us in uniform. Those who are protecting the virtues of freedom."

In an e-mail, Palin spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt emphasized that the Alaska governor was not insulting D.C., she was merely highlighting the virtues of far-flung cities and towns across the nation.

"She was reinforcing the message that the best of our America isn't confined to our nation's capitol," Schmitt wrote.

1. Why is everything an "us" versus "them" meme instead of a "we"
Why are they always so fucking divisive?

See, they've even got me doing it!

Palin's a mess.
Mental F-up.

Seccessionist mentality.
Can't wait till she's gone from the spotlight.

Heard today she may appear on SNL this wknd.
Why give this nobody any more f-in press time.
She should just go home.

5. i never get how an anti-urban message means MORE votes.
the logical extension of this is to say that the best parts of america are the ones where there aren't any americans.

say, the pasayten or bob marshall wildernesses in winter.

12. The best part
Its not even rural vs urban, but in many cases suburban vs urban. And quite often the urban area the suburban Republicans focus all their hate towards is the urban area to which their suburbs grow from. The number of Republicans in the northern arc of Atlanta that hate everything to do with Atlanta is quite perplexing. The reason they are where they are is because of all the benefits of living near a city like that brings them, but they do not want a single cent of their taxes going towards the city infrastructure.

14. it sounds illogical but I think they know they can't get the urban vote, even though we make up the
majority. they're going for the small town folks.

8. The small town elitism is annoying
And the best of most countries come out of the big cities. The big cities are big because people congregated there.

16. Someone on the Daily Show the other night made an interesting point...
If NYC and DC are so damn un-American, then why were they the target of terrorists. If they were American enough for the terrorists, that's good enough for me.
