Is Nate Silver the new Drudge?
Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 04:00 PM by Hamlette
I remember when Mark Halperin said “Drudge rules our world,” and being terrified.

Remember it was Drudge who pushed the Monica story which led to the impeachment. Sure, he had help, but if the MSM is reading him everyday, and he "rules" their "world" it means he controls OUR world too, or at least what is reported in the MSM.

Apparently daily visits to his web site have been going down. http://www.blogpi.net/the-fall-of-the-report-of-drudge

Here's a chart comparing him to right wing Real Clear Politics earlier this year:

And here's one comparing him to Huffington Post same time period:

As is pointed out in the article however, if the MSM visit him maybe the number of hits isn't that important.

But consider that Nate said a week or so ago that he is getting about 900K hits a day now which makes him "as big" as one of the top ten print magazines in the country.

Then I saw a blog post today entitled: New Web Star vs The Old? with a link to Nate's fisking of Drudge re: an old online poll Drudge is pushing to show a closer race than might otherwise be true. http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/10/bad-spin-watch-drudge-touts-weeks-old.html

Imagine how different our world would be if the MSM's world was "ruled" by facts via Nate than rumors and slime via Drudge?

4. Drudge is not and never has been a pollster or a credible
poll analyst for polls. He IS and ALWAYS has been a partisan hack. Have you noticed he still has not posted one word about the Troopergate report. Not a word.

But speaking of Nate Silver . . . he takes it to Drudge for being the hack that he is.

Bad Spin Watch: Drudge Touts Weeks-Old, Web-Based Poll

For his latest trick, Matt Drudge is touting the results of an AP-Yahoo poll that shows a two-point race between Obama and McCain.

You may never have heard of the AP-Yahoo poll before. This is for good reason, since a look at the fine print reveals that it's not really intended for its horse race numbers (the AP uses a separate agency, GfK, for those).

For one thing, the poll is not timely. It entered the field on October 3 -- two weeks ago -- and left the field on October 13, which was this Monday.

7. Here's a better way to put it: "Is Nate Silver the New Ice Cream?"
Is Nate Silver the new Bicycle?

Is Nate Silver the new Winning Lottery Ticket?

Is Nate Silver the new Snow Day?

In other words, Nate Silver is all that is good, and wonderful. :-)

GO, 538!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
