Yard Sign Battle Looming
Okay.... two of my neighbors have put Bush/Cheney signs in their yards (one of them has three signs for gawd's sake!).

So, where do I get my Kerry/Edwards signs?

You'd expect that the Nebraska Democratic Party web site would have information on where to get/buy signs, but I can't find any information. Okay, we're a red state, but we also pioneered the Progressive movement a hundred years ago, so there has to be a glimmer of progressive genes lurking here somewhere.

8. I have 4 signs
3 in my upstairs windows and 1 in my yard. I had 3 in my front yard but I have had people stop and ask for them because they are so visible. I have about 100 left to give away. Tues after our primary the other 2 go back in the yard. In fact I have 2 to put in the back of my yard so they can be seen from the other street. We have no fences and I back up to federal forest land. I have 2 bumper stickers on the back of all 3 cars and 1 on the front bumpers. I have a little flag on the antena of my car, a little white convertible that has been dubbed the Kerry Car and keep a supply of bumper stickers and signs in my truck. I have recieved numerous nice notes on my windshield and so far no nasty ones. My neighbor that just put up an * sign complained to the city because she thought I had put a sign on "US forest" land and I'm sure she shit a brick when she found out how large our property really was. Unfortunately I can put up my own campaign sign because I am running for a non-partisan seat on the school board although it is not a secret that i am an active Dem, most people don't know the "Kerry" house is mine, though that will change shortly.

17. Damn, I bet you got more Kerry stuff than Kerry does.
I have a window sign, I have a wooden flag in the window that is upside down, I have so many stickers on my back car window it's a wonder I can see, I have a Kerry/Edwards watch that I bought on eBay, and I have a Kerry t-shirt which always gets positive feedback from people just walking around. We're doing our part. ha

32. None for free
If MoveOn can send me a KerryKit for free, why can't the Kerry campaign send me a Kerry yard sign for free?

There's a dearth of Kerry yard signs here in NC too. The local dem headquarters keeps "expecting" them, but who knows when?

A union supporter of Kerry's got me mine, and as soon as I put mine up a neighbor across the street put up his Bush/Cheney and looked at my house and sneered.

9. Bush/Cheney signs all over my area. Where are the Kerry signs?
Seriously, they must have sent them to all of their donors. I got a bunch of Kerry Edwards bumper stickers in the mail but our local Dem headquarters doesn't have any signs. The local Repubs also have nice little signs made up saying "Democrats = Corruption". (This is New Jersey here and yeah we do have this little scandal thing going on with our governor)

The truly ambitious can order their Kerry Edwards sign online but quite frankly, the campeign should be giving these things out.

Is this any way to run an election?

29. They don't have them in swing states either
I went to our local Dem. HQ to ask for one 10 days ago for a neighbor of my sister, a WWII Pearl Harbor Vet. They didn't have any. I had a placard sized sign that I took from a wall when Cleland spoke, so I gave that to him. We're in Minnesota.

22. no shit. and they should not be charging as much as they do for them.
i give enough to the campaign. i think they should have sent me a couple yard signs and bumperstickers with my donations. i think they are a bit unorganized about getting them to the local groups.

We can no longer contribute to the campaign but we can still buy stuff from the campaign, which is another way of making a contribution.

The other side's got their signs up all over the place. Almost every damn clone house in Monmouth County's got a nice shiny one right on the roadside (been tempted to sideswipe a few.

Once again is this any way to run a campeign?

Edited on Mon Sep-06-04 12:16 PM by Longhorn
I don't begrudge buying signs if the money they get for it goes to other campaign expenses. I'm sure they give them away, too, but in places where it will make a difference.

(Edit for typo.)

11. I've had my K/E sign out for a while and just today
I saw a neighbor with 2 b/c signs. I almost ran off the road (and hit them accidentally on purpose) but I had to remind myself that the neighbor has the same right as I do to show support for his candidate. Even if his candidate is an asshole.

Anyway, the neighbor is a southern baptist minister and I know is voting solely on one issue Pro-Life. AARRGH! That drives me nuts! I live in a small town in NC and that is all I hear. "I would never vote for a candidate that supports abortion" "We have to protect the unborn" Well, what about the already born? And who says Pro-Life means pro abortion? AARRGH.

Sorry, I got carried away - had to get that off my chest.

I got my stuff at kerrygear.com

Did it come with the metal stakes to stick it in your yard or do you have to buy that somewhere else? I noticed on the order form it said that it didn't come with a frame.

If it's a parsonage, provided by the church, s/he may be in violation of the regulations on churches re: political campaigning.

I have stickers in my car window, but would NEVER put one in the parsonage yard.

24. I'm in SC - a red state - our SCDP headquarters had SOME signs
They were not Yard signs.... They were the flimsy signs you hold up during rallys.... They advised to reinforce them, waterproof them and/or BRING THEM IN IF IT RAINED.... Yea ... like that's going to happen. They told me that since we were a RED state that we wouldn't getting much in the way of signs, buttons, bumper stickers etc. from the Kerry folks... WTF ? They also wanted to charge me for the bumper stickers .... I was picking up a bunch of stuff for a group of my Dem friends - THAT WOULD USE IT!!!

To be honest ... It really looked like the Kerry folks had REALLY written off the Red states. I hope that is not true. We can still put up a good show.

Mix together and coat, as suggested by a DUer to prevent the stealing of yard signs, which is a huge problem where I live in the South.

33. The DUer reported that
when the person trying to steal your yard sign grabs the yard sign, and throws it into his pick up/car, it will be very slicky, forcing him to grab onto it tightly. The habanero juice (found in your local grocery) will stay on his hands, and anywhere else on his body that he touches, will burn like fire! Imagine him then taking a leak, and getting the juice on his teeny weeny weinie. Tends to deter yard sign theft by the same people.

34. I have mine in WINDOWS
They are in windows in the front and side, since we live on a corner, alongside TWO "NEVER FORGET 9/11" flags. I dont trust the mindless boobs around here, even though this is mostly Kerry country. There IS one house 2 blocks away that had a * lawn sign, but someone not only 'took it down' but stomped it into submission and left it on their lawn! One of the funniest thing I ever saw.

Id like to get more and whoever said it, KerryGear is S-L-O-W

I smile every time I look at it.

Of course, I live two miles up a steep, narrow road with no neighbors for miles in any direction, but it still makes me feel good :-).

My vehicle has one of the 'If you're not totally appalled...' stickers and a Kerry for Prez sticker. I've been getting a lot more approving smiles and thumbs up recently, even here in Wyoming.....
