Change of Heart! "No Longer a PUMA"
Over at the blog "Yes To Democracy", we recently got this message from someone who had been involved in the "PUMA" movement - and has had a change of heart.

And I'd like to echo my fellow bloggers over there in saying to "No Longer a PUMA," Welcome back to the Democratic Party.

http://www.yestodemocracy.com/yes_to_democracy_no_to_pu/2008/10/reader-comment-no-longer-a-puma.html

Why I’m no longer a P.U.M.A. - by "No Longer a PUMA,"

I admit it. I was a bitter, angry and scorned woman. Hillary Clinton was my choice during the primary and when she lost, well, I guess I couldn’t cope. Then P.U,M.A. was there to rescue me. What a coincidence. They were all set ready to go even before the last primary election. Isn’t it like that with all fringe radical groups. They prey on the vulnerable and the insecure. I admit it, I was fooled and used. These people are not Hillary Clinton voters or supporters. The few left that did vote for Hillary are no longer on her side. Trust me. I blogged with them and I got to know them.

P.U.M.A. turned me into an ugly, vile, hateful and ranting person. I went so far as to attack and smear one of my favorite Hillary bloggers after the convention. The weird thing? I was starting to become what I was supposedly fighting against. I don’t know what happened to me. When Hillary said “were you for me and my policies or were you just for me.” That made sense. McCain is the furthest thing from Hillary or her policies. Not to mention Sarah Palin who is a right wing lunatic. How is it I was excited about Palin, when she is EVERYTHING that I am against? It was gender plain and simple. John McCain and P.U.M.A. pandered to people like me and I couldn’t be happier it will be his downfall. He will go down as the first nominee that created and bought his own staged propaganda and lies.

The last couple months I started to get the feeling these were not even Hillary supporters, much less Democrats. I found them parroting Rush talking points, posting articles from Free Republic and even throwing Hillary Clinton under the bus. I’ll never forget one thread where Hillary was fundraising for Obama. Two supposedly Hillary ‘P.U.M.A.s’ said she looked haggard and unattractive. I began to see the months I spent fighting misogyny along side people I thought were on my side be wasted and flushed down the drain. They also continued to insinuate Hillary was a weak woman and being controlled by Obama, that she doesn’t really support him, only doing what she is “told to do”. They also said she was going to vote for McCain. They state it as FACT. They know all about how Hillary feels, thinks and what she is going to do in the voting booth. Pretty amazing, non?

Over the last couple months I noticed my favorite Hillary board begin to change. Republicans were made moderators and the new members vs old members was 2:1. People who were the foundation of the board began to be silenced and censored. I had posts deleted for pointing out Sarah Palin supported giving $150 per severed wolf paw in Alaska that was killed from an aerial plane. I had posts deleted that said trickle down economics doesn’t work. I had posts deleted that showed McCain favors giving tax cuts to the wealthy while Obama wants to give a break to the poor and middle class. I was told by “Hillary supporters” that McCain has a better tax plan AND healthcare plan than Obama. When I said no and pointed out reasons why..you guessed it..my post was deleted. Right there was my proof these were never Hillary supporters. How can someone favor, much less state, McCain has a better plan for the economy, a better plan for middle Americans, a better plan for healthcare, when Obama and Hillary’s aforementioned plans were almost identical? Just yesterday a couple of them were making fun of poor people and how people on welfare should just get off their asses and find a job. The P.U.M.A.s are either willing to walk off that bridge to nowhere or they are Republicans. I refuse to lose faith in those that are for Hillary. These are Republicans.

The final straw was the bear cub that was shot in the head and dumped in front of a University with Obama posters stapled to it. I was horrified, but wait. I was told by the P.U.M.A. group this wasn’t an anti-Obama crime or one carried out by someone that would vote for McCain/Palin. No. This was carried out by Obama supporting college students to show their support for Obama! Their conclusion? These college kids went out hunting for a small cub, shot it in the head to show they are against animal killing. I am not kidding. That is how sick and delusional these people are.

I would like to thank the P.U.M.A.s for making me wake up before it was too late. Without your push I’m not sure I could’ve done it on my own. I was used and treated like yesterday’s trash when I didn’t want to toe the line anymore. These people are not your friends, they are not on your side, they just want to use you and create chaos and fear in order to have Obama lose. When they don’t have any use for you they will throw you out. It’s not too late to any true Hillary supporters out there that still belongs to P.U.M.A.. Hillary was right. We cannot afford 4 more years of the failed Republican policies. With less than two weeks to go until voting day, I can say it wasn’t too late for me to come home and I hope there are stragglers that can do the same.

Thank you Hillary, for leaving the light on for me.

18. There's not enough time for some of them...
but it's good to see the ones who really were for Hillary coming around. The whole PUMA thing smacks of televangelism to me. Opportunity seekers, there at just the right time, with the right message, wondering what it is they can do for you.

4. Guessing she was a member of
www.hillaryclintonforum.com or www.hillaryis44.org

Both sites started as Pro Clinton sites.. got rough during the primaries.. and are now complete PUMA Cess Pools.

I am glad that some are starting to see the light. I used to pop over there during the primaries.. in fact the original Mod of the www.hillaryclintonforum.com is a lesbian woman who is now staunchly opposed to Obama, and thinks McCain / Palin is the best possible ticket.

When anyone points out that Palin is about as anti-gay as possible, she just says that she's not a one issue voter. :wow: I'm not a one issue voter either... but uhh... if she was a huge clinton supporter as she claims, how in the WORLD do you support all of those policies, and then do a 180 degree switch and support someone totally against your own interests?

Luckily the country is smarter then she is.. and we're going to save her even if she won't save herself right now.

To the OP of the original story above.. welcome back.. Obama welcomes your vote, and anyone else you can bring with you. :)

9. Understand!
What I thought was amazing was after the speech Sen. Clinton gave at the DNC.

"Hillaryis44" posted a transcript. An **edited** transcript. Almost 400 words - anything to do with party unity, supporting Sen. Obama, etc., all cut.

http://www.yestodemocracy.com/yes_to_democracy_no_to_pu/2008/08/the-pumas-in-th.html

The comments were all full of claims of "subliminal messages", and other attempts by PUMAs to try and explain away Sen. Clinton's words, to claim that she didn't really say what she did, that she was sending out coded messages to her loyal PUMA followers.

It was amazing how much they were trying to reject reality.

5. I personally read a post by an ex-DUer on another board. She told
them they were all republicans now and she was glad she hadn't fallen for their schtick.

I was SO proud of her for saying what she did. Of course she was banned the minute she said it. And I hope she comes back here when she's ready.

8. I feel really bad for Hillary that pro-Hillary sites became boobytraps like that
Seriously, no matter what your problems are with Hillary, that is just low how her supporters got preyed upon. It's almost like how cults recruit people... Seriously, fucking creepy.

Now that they've clearly lost, again, they want to come crying back after all the racist shenanagins they've pulled?

20. I was upset after Hillary lost, but the PUMA group never appealed to me. I recognized right away
that there were ulterior motives at work. For me, this realization goes back to the RBC meeting when the supposed Hillary supporters who were protesting outside the meeting started chanting McCain's name.

23. Hillary has made me proud over the last several months.
And the Democratic party has been more unified than I have ever seen it. I feel sorry for those P.U.M.A.s who missed out on it, but I am glad to have them back.

Welcome home!

25. This happened to Clinton voters by the tens of thousands around early October
There's no question that Palin's philosophy and behavior reversed any lingering anger over the primary. People saw that where the rubber hit the road, they had to have POLICY, and McCain/Palin policy is a disaster, and utterly contrary to Clintonism.
