McCain: 'She needed clothes'
10/23/08 3:59 PM EDT

John McCain defended the Republican National Committee’s decision Thursday to spend more than $150,000 dollars on clothing and accessories for running mate Sarah Palin.

“She needed clothes at the time,” McCain told a group of Florida reporters.

Why should it come from your supporters donations? Do you think Joe the Plumber thought his $50 was going to Saks 5th Avenue?

26. Her old wardrobe didn't take full advantage of her sex appeal
That would be my guess as to why they decided she needed a makeover. And while her new clothes do look better, I can't believe that she blew $150,000 on off the rack stuff at Saks and Neiman Marcus. If I were going to spend anywhere near that kind of cash on clothes, I would buy custom tailored suits. It seems that not only do they think she needs fancier clothes, but also she can never wear the same thing twice.

15. she needed clothes? if that isnt a slap across a hubby's face. i mean, my hubby
takes pride in being able to provide. and though out dated, there is the male thing, and they do like "clothing" their own women and not accepting charity. and this is an "alaskan" male after all. how does this hit his ego to have the world know mccain had to "clothe" his wife

lmao

17. That's odd, John. Everytime I saw her on the TeeVee she was fully clothed.
What you mean, John, is that she needed different clothes. Clothes better suited to the role she's playing in the made-for-Tee-Vee McPalin mini-series.

20. Palins' finances unusual for Alaskans Family owns plane, two boats

Their combined income of nearly a quarter-million dollars last year was five times the median household income for Wasilla's 7,000 residents. They own a single-engine plane, two boats, two personal watercraft and a half-million-dollar, custom-built home on a lake that is worth three times the average of other homes in town.

For the future, they also have a 401(k) retirement account compliments of Todd Palin's years as an engineer with oil giant BP.

"Gov. Palin's story is emblematic of the American dream," McCain campaign spokesman Ben Porritt said.

27. my students need some clothes
I work with immigrant children. It just started getting cold here. We wear uniforms and these kids have no navy blue or white sweaters. All they have is T-shirts. We have been running around looking for a way to get sweaters for the kids to keep them warm. $150K can go a looooong way to help with clothing needs.

But I guess, that would be "spreading the wealth around", and Sara wants to hang on to it all by herself.
