I just attended a poll-checker training session earlier this evening in Colorado. Granted I'm just a backup checker - my primary duty will be as a neighborhood phone bank director, due to my bum foot, but I am cross-training as a poll-checker.

There was well over a hundred people there at my local Obama HQ, just tonight, and there's more training sessions taking place daily. We WILL be out there, watching the polls, working to keep this election honest.

Obama (himself a civil rights attorney who's worked these issues for a living before he joined the Illinois Senate) will have the biggest election protection organization in history!

We'll be counting voters - if our counts disagree with the counts from the election judges by a ridiculous amount, we'll call them out.

Too many people being turned away or made to vote on provisional ballots? We'll call them out.

Diebold vote machines switching votes or mangling the VVPR tapes? (yes, I observed this with my own eyes.) We'll call them out.

People being told to fill out their ballots with "invisible ink" pens? We'll call them out.

Too few voting machines in a location and lines going around the block? We'll call them out.

We are everywhere, and we will ensure that everyone who is eligible to vote and wants to vote gets to vote, and we have lawyers on speed-dial who will bring the hammer down on any shenanigans.

POLL WATCHERS, CHECKERS AND ELECTION PROTECTION PEOPLE!!! SOUND OFF!!!

3. Good for you!!
I'll be doing something for the campaign on election day, but I don't know what yet. I'll find out more tomorrow when I go back to volunteer. There were many phone calls going out to lawyers asking them to be poll watchers. It's great!

Not this time!!!!

Went to a poll watcher/greeter training session and there were alot of us there.
When I first got there the library (they used a meeting room for the session) had not opened yet so I stood by the crowd on the front steps...then I realized that CROWD was not there to use the library services, they were there for the meeting. Wow.
They are having even more training sessions between now and next week and are putting out daily emails requesting poll watchers at all 160+ sites in our county on election day and for early voting sites.
We're getting daily emails on what glitches are being found each day by the poll watchers.
I signed up to be a poll greeter for the weekend and on election day. Greeters will be watching/reporting any unusual activity outside the building/in the lines, etc...as you said, with cell phone in hand to call a hotline for help if needed.

10. I won't be a poll checker.
But I will be a poll worker. I'll be the one handing people ballots or guarding the ballot box. I want to watch exactly what is done in one polling location from beginning to end--that's 6am I have to be there and will leave whenever everyone who was in line by 7pm when the polls close has voted and then whenever we get the location packed up and secured.

I'm here in Denver, and glad to know there's another DUer working to keep the election honest in Colorado. :patriot:
