I don't feel sorry for Ashley Todd...
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 12:54 PM by TwoSparkles
This was not some woman who just wanted attention for herself.

This was a woman who said "a black man"--an Obama supporter--carved into her face with a knife, hurt
her and robbed her.

This was someone who wanted to do damage to the Obama campaign and to the Democrats. This was politically
motivated to hurt African Americans and the Obama campaign.

This can't be all chalked up to some poor, defenseless girl who was shouting out for help.

Her crime wasn't about gaining attention for herself, her crimes were plotted to malign African Americans and Obama.

11. The OP was just offering a preemptive judgment.
You know, just in case someone on DU started "thinking wrong."

24. Actually, I was just expressing...
...my own opinion. I didn't speak to anyone else's opinions--which
I would surely understand and respect--even though I may disagree.

2. I agree. She was not crying for help; she is a sociopath who tried to incite a race riot
to hurt the Obama campaign.

3. Crazy moron could have caused a race riot or a lynching with her bullshit.
If it had spun out of control it very well could have.

14. Good comparison, altho the scale of the potential harm is not nearly the same.
Imagine the number of fights, assaults, even riots, that could result if people start taking this sort of hoax seriously.

Even if she is "disturbed" she had a plan to do damage to Obama and African Americans. She is despicable.

9. these kind of lies led to lynchings
Here in Duluth Minnesota, a girl lied about being raped and led to lynchings in 1920.

Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 12:56 PM by mvd
but I don't think he orchestrated it. I think it's just a mentally disturbed campaign worker, of which the campaign attracts a lot of. I don't know if you can therapy out racism and hate like she has.

13. From a recent post. "40 or 50 years ago, innocent people would by LYNCHED due to stunt like this."
"As a young white woman, she'd be a victim and THOSE people would be guilty."

I think that spells it out pretty good.

as I did for the bed-haired old lady at mccain's MN rally who "sheepishly" claimed Obama is Muslim. Neither are deserving of ANY pity... :grr:

17. Don't forget she also said that he sexually assaulted her
according to MSNBC earlier today before it was revealed to be a hoax. She should be publicly shamed for doing this to discourage others from attempting such stunts in the future. Now I want to know if she did this by herself or if someone higher up in the McCain campaign knew about it.

18. Her behavior was malicious
Even if she did not fully think about the consequences of her actions, she had to realize that innocent person could have been arrested as result of her lies. Yet she was willing to risk ruining an innocent man' s life. I hope that she serves at least some time in jail or prison.

20. Now Susan might have been mentally ill
I think Ashley's a bad person and racist who has some mentally disturbed tendencies to go that far. Unless it's a McCain campaign thing.

Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 06:21 PM by RollWithIt
She's clearly mentally troubled. She's overweight. She's not very attractive. She's in Pittsburgh working for free for the McCain campaign. She's nuts. That alone makes me feel sorry for her. Something just really bothered me about the whole thing.

27. I felt sorry for Tawana Brawley, and I feel sorry for Ashley Todd.
At least Ashley confessed a day after her stupid racist stunt. If she hadn't, I'd be right there with you not feeling bad for her, and not being compassionate enough to think that maybe she can find a way out of her hole of racism if everyone stops stomping on her. She's going to suffer for this, for a long, long time. I feel sorry for her.

28. Wrong
as someone mentioned, she needs to be shamed. Soceity needs to send a clear message to these kinds of dingbats that this kind of behavior is unacceptable and has repercussions. So that it doesn't happen again. And so that more (yes, primarily) black men aren't thrown into jail for no reason.
