34 years for funding!!! :bounce:

<snip>

In her speech today, Palin will lay out the campaign's plans to fully fund the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, boost funding for special-needs children from birth to age 3 and allow parents to choose whether federal money for their child is used in a public, private, religious or secular school without navigating a cumbersome administrative process.

The federal government originally committed in 1975 to paying 40% of the cost of educating children with special needs, with the states paying the rest. But that has never happened; full funding would require approximately $26 billion a year, and the federal government currently pays $10.9 billion. The McCain campaign plans to phase in that increased money.

On edit:

Here's the Obama/Biden fact sheet on their plans for persons with disabilities (oh, and they have a history of working for people with disabilities so I believe them just a bit more than princess yup yup)

4. Give me yet another break from Palin
Ok.... so now that the country is in a fiscal crisis, she is going to magically fund IDEA? And she who is a special needs parent for less than a year, suddenly is an expert on the needs of these children? Sure.

I've been a special education advocate in FL for a number of years and I can tell you that her pandering to this population of parents (voters) really pizzes me off.

10. My only thought is that it may attract some school board members
or school district administrators who think 'finally' their budgets might balance if the Fed. Govt. actually picked up the tab for this unfunded mandate.

But really...how stupid could they be?? Wait...don't answer that.

12. Since 1975 we've had alot of republicansin charge in DC
AND when we had a democrat president (Clinton) the republicans were in charge of congress for 6 of those years.

Why is this an issue now even though it wasn't for all those other years?

And when did the US start elections for the 101st senate. Someone really needs to tell her what the VP job duties include

13. Joe Biden actually co-sponsored the original legislation
And I think our members of Congress who actually care about this issue have tried to increase funding on a regular basis.

But I'm glad to hear VP-Palin (:rofl: sorry I just can't say that with a straight face) is gonna shake up and fix our Congress so that they fund un-funded mandates (while cuttin taxes and helpin the little guy) :eyes:
