PA GOP Email 75,000 Jews: Voting Obama Likened to Holocaust
by Hope Reborn
Sat Oct 25, 2008 at 09:18:05 PM PDT
75,000 Pennsylvania Jewish Voters received this email Thursday through a GOP email list from a GOP Jewish Outreach Coordinator.

"Jewish Americans cannot afford to make the wrong decision on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008," the e-mail reads. "Many of our ancestors ignored the warning signs in the 1930s and 1940s and made a tragic mistake. Let's not make a similar one this year!"

2. Jews don't like politicians throwing "Holocaust" accusations around
for political campaigns. That email will send more Jews to Obama than anything.

13. Too right. It's contemptible; and I expect most Jewish people will see it as such
Sometimes I get REALLY shocked at all the mudslinging in American political campaigns. It can get pretty bad in the UK, but usually not quite that bad!

3. I just want to say that as a Jewish person, I am very glad that education is one of our
core values. I'm not the least bit concerned about Jews being fooled and intimidated by false emails, it simply will not work with this population. However, it does make McCain look even worse than he already does (if that's possible). It will backfire.

In my previous life I think I would have been furious about this because it is so degrading to use the Holocaust to whip Jews up into a frenzy. Now I just pity the pathetic candidates who would turn to this tactic.

7. Don't Be Too Sure
Fear is always a very powerful motivator, even amongst educated people. Get some one scared enough, even a smart person won't listen to reason. It's human instinct. The best "defense" is to shine a light on it to show how absurd the notion is.

10. Haaretz.com has an article and refers to a NYT report.
PA GOP and McCain camp disavow the email, they man responsible has been fired, but..

"Political consultant Bryan Rudnick was identified as the person responsible for it. Rudnick, reached Saturday night, confirmed that he no longer works for the party, which employed him a few weeks ago as a consultant to do outreach to Jewish voters.

"I had authorization from party officials to send the e-mail," Rudnick said, but he declined to say who had signed off on it. "I'm not looking to drag anyone else through the mud, so I'm not naming names right now," he said.

15. NY Times had the story too
and if anyone here gets the e--mail, please post it.

Updated | 9:20 p.m. A new e-mail making the rounds among Jewish voters in Pennsylvania this week falsely alleged that Mr. Obama “taught members of Acorn to commit voter registration fraud,’’ and equated a vote for Senator Barack Obama with the “tragic mistake” of their Jewish ancestors, who “ignored the warning signs in the 1930’s and 1940’s.”

At first blush, it was typical of the sorts of e-mails floating around with false, unsubstantiated and incendiary claims this year.

But where most of the attack e-mails against Mr. Obama have been mostly either anonymous or from people outside of mainstream politics, this one had an unusually official provenance: It was sponsored by the Pennsylvania Republican Party’s “Victory 2008” committee.

And it was signed by several prominent McCain supporters in the state: Mitchell L. Morgan, a top fund-raiser; Hon. Sandra Schwartz Newman, a member of Mr. McCain’s national task-force monitoring Election Day voting, and I. Michael Coslov, a steel industry executive.
