Portsmouth Herald endorses Barack Obama |
|
Portsmouth Herald We believe that Obama is the leader to guide America through this tumultuous storm. Beginning last month when news of the financial crisis began to dominate the headlines, voters have had a rare opportunity to measure the leadership capabilities of Obama and McCain. While Obama remained cool and confident, McCain embodied a different policy and approach with each passing day. The less experienced Obama showed sound judgment and offered Americans a path to recovery backed by a wide range of serious policy options.
This has been a tough election. Obama has been attacked as a celebrity lightweight, a terrorist sympathizer or a latent socialist. But these attacks have had little relevance to what is needed to move this country forward after eight years of economic decay and leadership atrophy.
Obama has played tough himself, but has almost always responded on policy-based grounds. When confronted by the controversy and public concern about his former preacher earlier this year, Obama turned it into one of the great speeches on race in the country's history.
This is one of those rare elections that will truly achieve historic significance. We believe Barack Obama has shown the right temperament, judgment and intellectual vigor to be a great president — one the country needs when it matters the most.http://seacoastonline.com/articles/20081026-OPINION-810260318
