Lieberman confirms that he's a chump, now trying to suck up to Democrats

LIEBERMAN HASN'T BEEN PAYING ATTENTION TO HIMSELF....

Joe Lieberman adopted the role of Republican attack dog early on, but as the election draws near, he's hoping the political world has a very short memory.

Lieberman, a self-proclaimed "independent Democrat" who was chosen by McCain to make the case against Obama at the Republican National Convention in early September, said his comments have been within bounds.

"When I go out, I say, 'I have a lot of respect for Sen. Obama. He's bright. He's eloquent.'"

My hunch is, Lieberman sees the direction of the political winds, and hopes to convince Democrats that while he's been a McCain sycophant, he's always been "respectful" towards Obama.

Lieberman, in other words, has to hope Democrats haven't been paying any attention at all. The party is supposed to forget, for example, when Lieberman argued that Obama doesn't put "country first."

And the time Lieberman said it was a "good question" to ask whether Obama is a "Marxist."

And the time Lieberman ironically accused the Obama campaign of "sleazy tactics."

And the time Lieberman, at the Republican National Convention, falsely accused Obama of trying to undermine the troops

"Respectful"? Nice try, Joe.

If the Dems are wise, they will remember his betrayal.

2. Lieberman must endorse Obama or his career is over. He can say he disagrees with Obama on Iraq but
that he agrees with the Democrats on all other issues and that he now needs to look to the future etc etc etc

Joe is pretty much fucked either way, but his best bet is to recant his support of McCalin and go with full throated support of every Democrat on every ticket.

37. I'll always think he was a set up for Gore
and that he spied on the campaign.

I really can not tolerate the man and he should be thrown out of the Democratic Party the second that Obama is elected.

50. I think it's a lot more terrifying than that.
I think if Gore had been sworn in, he would have been at an important meeting in the twin towers on the morning of Sept 11.

I think the plan was more like: "heads we win, tails you lose."

We would be much worse off than we are now if Lieberman were in the WhiteHouse. He'd be much worse than Dubya.

39. Doesn't matter. He still has four years to go...
...and would probably have retired at the end of those four years anyway.

I'm just hoping that the Democrats either wind up with one more Senate seat than they need for a filibuster-proof majority, or they fall short by a couple, so they won't have any need to keep Holy Joe in the fold. IMHO, the first thing they should do in January 2009 is to strip Lieberman of his committee assignments, and tell him that, if he wants to join the Republicans, the door is right over there.

:spank:

And booting lieberman to the curb will be the cherry on top.

24. Agreed - but they can even do it with fewer than 60.
With 55 or so, they would no longer have to worry about simple majorities or overriding President Obama's veto. I know it's not filibuster proof but it might be worth it to risk a few filibusters just to finally be able to boot Lieberman.

And regardless of what the Dems. do, I am sure Lieberman is PAINFULLY aware of how much power he's had since 2006 that he will no longer have, and he will suck up with his votes as well as his words wherever he can.

30. We don't need 60 votes to boot him
He should be expelled. The only time he was tolerable was when he got us to 51 votes. After that, nothing matters. It will take 60 votes to get past cloture. Even if we have 60 real Democrats in the Senate, there will probably be a few defections on any issue.

That means we'll need some Republican support on most issues. And when the legislative process is done properly, we can get that support. Lieberman can vote with us or against us. That's his choice, just like any other Republican. There are many Republican Senators I'd work closely with before engaging with this snake: Sanders, Bond, Lugar, Collins, Grassley, Smith, Specter, and McCain himself.

20. Lieberman is driven solely by his support of Israel.
He is a liberal who has supported virtually every liberal cause. This has been totally overshadowed by his fierce support for Israel. He is a declared Orthodox Jew, but has hedged when necessary, such a campaigning on the Sabbath. His divorce from his first wife was according to him based to some extent on his differences in respect to their religious beliefs. She was also Jewish, but more of the Reformed school. His second wife is strictly Orthodox and is associated with a number of pro-Israel organizations. Joe Lieberman's support of McCain is solely predicated on his ties to Israel causes. He is in total support of our continued war against Iraq since in reality it has never been more that a proxy war waged for the benefit of Israel. There is little doubt that he would support an invasion of Iran. No I am not an anti-semite for questioning why we are sacrificing our own self interest to assist Israel since they have consistently demonstrated that they have no intention of compromising with the Palestinians. Carter nailed it and the Jews hate him for it. If you have a different take, I would be glad to hear and consider it.
