Joe Loserman starts talking up his "respect" for Obama
Joe Lieberman adopted the role of Republican attack dog early on, but as the election draws near, he's hoping the political world has a very short memory.

Lieberman, a self-proclaimed "independent Democrat" who was chosen by McCain to make the case against Obama at the Republican National Convention in early September, said his comments have been within bounds.

"When I go out, I say, 'I have a lot of respect for Sen. Obama. He's bright. He's eloquent.'"

My hunch is, Lieberman sees the direction of the political winds, and hopes to convince Democrats that while he's been a McCain sycophant, he's always been "respectful" towards Obama.

Lieberman, in other words, has to hope Democrats haven't been paying any attention at all. The party is supposed to forget, for example, when Lieberman argued that Obama doesn't put "country first."

And the time Lieberman said it was a "good question" to ask whether Obama is a "Marxist."

And the time Lieberman ironically accused the Obama campaign of "sleazy tactics."

And the time Lieberman, at the Republican National Convention, falsely accused Obama of trying to undermine the troops

"Respectful"? Nice try, Joe.

1. Oh, yeah, the Dems have a short memory. The slogan of the new Congress is gonna be
"Forget Joe."

2. I am going to go against the prevailing view here ....
And posit that congresssional Democrats will welcome Ole Joementum with open arms ... Perhaps with a news conference photo-op and cigars and stuff ....

The need to possess a veto proof majority in the Senate will force a salving of the old wounds for both sides ....

The will bring Joe back, and Joe will be glad to be back in the fold, 'On the winning side', and, I suspect, so will the bulk of DUers who recognize the power of that one Senate vote ....

12. I hope Senate Dem's cut their "losses" and ban him from the cloakroom
Since Joe favors a continuation of Bush policies so much, and has staked out his political reputation on a Republican victory, let him go camp out on the GOP side of the aisle. And when he comes up for re-election in 4 years, we'll see how well he goes over with constituents running as an out-of-touch Republican turncoat from a deep blue state.

21. When the Democrats are fighting for a 60 seat Senate ...
And are unlikely to win 60 seats; they are going to be pragmatic and bring Joe back in, perhaps with a promise of keeping his chair if he rejoins the caucus.

As abhorrent as this is for DUers; the Democrats will embrace him, and his vote ....

23. Even in a 60-seat scenario, can his vote be relied on?
I don't think so. Lieberman will continue to veer right whenever it suits him. He's actually more of a "maverick" than McCain could ever hope to be. His continued presence as part of the Democratic caucus would be more symbolic than meaningful, and the Democrats could not count on his vote as being a favorably pivotal one, if and when it came down to the wire.

24. Well ... as much as I despised MANY of Joe's votes
He had been a proven supporter of liberal positions ... ALL not involving Israel or Arab states ....

Im sure somehow has the link to his overall voting record .... but Liebermann has a generally GOOD voting record for us ....

It's hard to get past the shitty part of him though .... But you can be sure the Democratic caucus will ignore that part IF it get's them the vote they need ....

It's ugly but true ....

5. Is this the same Joe Lieberman...
...who stood in at close camera range during GOP rallies where Obama was relentlessly slimed as being a "terrorist Muslim" and "communist" by McCain supporters, and the same Joe who nodded in approval at each of Sarah Palin's RW talking points during those same rallies? Not just points regarding Iraq, but her comments on the economy, and regarding questions of Obama's "associations"? Yes, I thought that was the same Joe. Sorry Senator, you've already made your bed, and you also know how the rest goes.

You worthless, backstabbing son of a Bu$h. I hope that the Democrats do get 60 Senate seats, and we find a few Democrats who will vote to push your sorry ass out. Connecticut I think wants their senator back, you loser.

18. I guess that veto proof majority may not need to include Joey Traitor.
We have 9 days left to make Joe irrelevant. Ask yourself what you can do each of those 9 days to send Joementum to his new office in a basement broom closet and republicans into the wilderness for the next thirty years.

And President-elect Obama should knee the old bastard where his balls used to be.
Liberman is the greatest fraud in American politics, and that's saying a lot. An opportunistic, self-righteous windbag.

You will now have to earn any respect you are going to get because there is none left. You are not a worthy opponent. John McCain gets more respect than you from Democrats.

30. Just the fact that this idiot appeared at the GOP national convention
and openly supported the Republican ticket should damn him forever with the Democratic Party and prevent him from ever again assuming any positions of power within it. I'm hoping this election and the new Democratic edge in the Senate renders Lieberman completely irrelevant.

31. Joe the Ingrate Lieberman
Senator Obama once gave a strong and sucessful speech on Lieberman's behalf, really laid on the silver tounge, put himself on a bit of a limb for Joe I'd say. Goes to show you, help a Bushlover raise tens of thousands, he'll call you a sleazy Marxist anyway. Leiberman seems to have a very short memory himself.
