We need to cheer for the Tampa Bay Rays -- here's why
We need to cheer for the Rays to come back in the World Series.

Game 4 is in progress tonight, Sunday.
Game 5 is on Monday.
Game 6, if necessary, is played on Wednesday.

Why is it important for game 6 to be played? Barack Obama's 1/2 hour address is being carried on FOX @ 8pm, which is preempting the World Series Game to carry the speech. FOX actually is delaying the start of the World Series by 1/2 hour to accommodate for him, so the game will start at 830pm instead of 8pm. If the Rays can make it to game 6 (they are trailing 1-2 in a best of 7), then Florida and Pennsylvania voters waiting for the game to come on will have their sets already turned on around the time that Obama is going to be on TV.

Therefore, a Rays victory and a close series will probably help Obama's cause in Florida and Pennsylvania.

7. Tha't what I've been worried about ever since I first heard about it.
The Republican talking heads are going to try to make a huge deal out of it and instigate hard feelings among basebal fans concerning it.

5. I'm gonna have to root for the Phillies...
however it's very likely, given the results of the last 3 games, that a close series will happen. We shall see. I'm kind of a pessimist seeing what happened to my Dodgers as of late =(

14. Same here.
Frank had BETTER get off the dime and sign Manny and Casey Blake. Let Kent go, let NoMore go, and as much as I hate to say it because I love the guy, Juan Pierre is XLNT trade bait. KEEP THE KIDS.

Da Bums could be a powerhouse for years to come if they keep Loney, Kemp, DeWitt, Berrara, Ethier, and Russell Martin.

19. Nomar can perform when he plays, but this season he's had issues.
You think it's really time to let him go? As far as everybody else I pretty much agree. Blake and Ramirez are a must have for next season. They better sign them asap...

21. I love Nomar. The OLD Nomar. We're from practically the same 'hood.
He's morphed into a first pitch swinging ground out artist. The calves and hamstrings are no longer viable. Bench coach yes. Starting first baseman? Sorry, Mr. Loney would beg to differ.

Oh yeah, even if we have to pay part of Andruw Jones' salary next year... Buh-bye!

20. Dodger fan, your team must sign Man Ram
He got you in the playoffs in the first place.

23. Begging to differ here. He WAS the spark plug, and DID lead the team in hitting.
But if not for some heart-breaking slumps by Da Bums, they would have been contending if not LEADING the West by any number of games come trade deadline day.

Still, SIGN MAN RAM! Give him his 25 mil for three years. I mean really, what will all those Dodger Fans do with their dreadlock wigs and bandanas if he's not signed? Imagine what he'll do for ticket sales! Damn, Da Bums sold OVER 3.7 million tickets this year.

Bad for me though, I'll have to spend money on Manny Memorabilia and it won't be cheap. I have a jersey signed by Garvey, Lopes, Russell, and Cey, among LOTS of other things including a ball Jeff Kent threw me after catching a line drive to end an inning when our gang went to Wrigley following the Dodgers. If Manny ends his career as a Dodger I'll have to have something with his name on it too and those silent auctions (ALL for charity by the way and TOTALLY deductible) at Dodger Stadium are brutal!

25. LOL!
I enjoyed your Dodger take.

My town doesn't have MLB, so I'll root for the Dodgers again especially if they sign Man Ram. I love to see him ding one and stand there admiring it in his PJs as the ball goes over the wall, then styling around the bases.

Manny is the best.

12. Hmmm... and here I was cheering for the Phillies...
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 08:47 PM by parasim
mainly because I just moved to this state, and I hate anything to do with this fucked up state.

Oh, that's harsh, I really don't hate this state, but I guess I'm just a northerner, originally being from Michigan then Ohio...

on edit: actually, as I am watching the game right now, I find myself rooting for the Rays, simply because they are wearing blue, whereas the Phillies are in red...

15. I dont know what a Ray or a Philly is because I hate baseball....
.... but yes, I agree completely.

This is totally random, but does anyone know why Barack prefers white socks to any other kind of socks? I'd think black or navy would look best with his suits. :)
