Survey: Where is Obama/Biden on Your State's Ballot?
Obama/Biden is listed second on my state's ballot (Missouri) because ballot positions are determined by the party who won the last gubernatorial race and then the party getting the next highest votes gets second place and so on and so on. Bob Barr is listed third place.

I don't like it. I wanted Obama's name to be first on the ballot. I especially don't like the fact that Bob Barr is right below Barack Obama. A person with bad vision could get mixed up (my paranoia kicking in). Plus, as we've seen in states like WV, if electronic voting machines aren't "calibrated", then the choice above could get the vote instead of the second position. A person could be pushing the second choice, but it registers with the first vote due to sensitivity or whatever.

I always use a paper ballot, anyway.

Where is Obama/Biden on your state's ballot?

19. I just looked for Obama/Biden so I didn't reallly pay attention.
I think it was about four or five parties. I do remember thinking it was pretty awful ballot placement.

7. Colorado. Obama/Biden second.
Our Gov is a Democrat. He won handily in 2006.

BUT!!!!! Our SOS is a Repuke, who barely won after a recount. My guess is he is the reason why. McKinney is 3rd, or Nader maybe. Barr is 5th.

12. Yea, they WOULD put Bob Barr at the bottom. What are they trying to do, hide him?
Then they put McKinney after Obama? Hmmm...she better not get more than 500 votes out of the state or else I'm gonna flip out. if people are using e-machines, they better double double check their ballots before the process it.

Obama should be first on every single ballot in the country. Saves people .001 seconds and makes the lines go faster. :evilgrin:

Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 01:01 AM by rebel with a cause
but this may just be our county? :shrug:

mccain is first, then the greens, then Obama, then the other two candidates..Barr and whoever.

Edited to add that it has been over a week since I voted so some of the unimportant names (to me) are being forgotten. ;)

17. I agree but what can I say.
This is Southern Illinois and I have no idea what their thinking is. All of the candidates for other positions were republican, Green and then Democratic. I just went down the lists and found Democratic and marked in the dot next to it. Bugs Bunny could have been running for dog catcher (no such title on ticket) this year on the Democratic ticket and he would have gotten my vote.

18. isn't it usually a state decision?
In Florida, where I grew up and voted in '00 and '04, it was based on the previous governors elections. In California, where I live now, it is determined alphabetically with the state doing the "lottery" of last names. Both systems seem fairly fair if applied state-wide, which they are in those two states.

20. It probably is but I never thought about it until this year.
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 01:22 AM by rebel with a cause
Our governor is Democratic, it was not alphabetically listed and most of our officials are Democrats except for a few so I have no idea why it is this way. I have someone who was going to call one of our elected officials to ask about it, but I keep forgetting to ask them if they called and if they found out anything. Will try to remember to do so tomorrow.

36. Called my person and got the information I was looking for.
In Illinois the ballots can be different in each county. In the three counties around here the candidates are listed in a different order in each county. He did not know why it is this way, just that it is. So every state is not the same, and not all states have rules on how the candidates will be listed. Who knew.

27. Ditto, Obama is last here, among the named choices, in the Las Vegas area
I saved my sample ballot. It is indeed in alphabetical order throughout, by the last name.

The order is:

* Baldwin, Chuck (IAP)
* Barr, Bob (LIB)
* McCain, John (REP)
* McKinney, Cynthia (GRN)
* Nader, Ralph (IND)
* Obama, Barack (DEM)
* None of These Candidates

I left out the VP names, but they are included also.

26. First.
It is based on which party won the largest number of votes in the state in the last Presidential election. But it was half-way down the first page of the ballot, since here in Seattle we are also voting on a large number of statewide offices, statewide initiatives, county charter amendments, judicial positions, city levy issues, and special district initiatives.
