McCain agenda this week. (prediction)
I see two last-week low blows in the works:

1) Drivers licenses for illegal aliens: An obvious issue and the only reasons they haven't been using it all along was probably to first ascertain that they've lost the hispanic vote anyway.

2) Reparations for slavery: This would be a wholly bogus invented issue, of course, but it's where they are heading, IMHO. If/when they claim Obama favors reparations he may have little choice but to deny it rather than ignore it. That's an ideal smear because the only real point of the smear would be to be talking about the issue at all.

Such an overtly racist, unfair attack would produce howls of outrage from the talking-head class which is why you save shit like that until the last weekend. The point is that polite opinion takes longer to percolate than outlandish smears.

1. Don't forget their usual last-week trick - sermons in every church this Sunday about dead babies.

2. I predict that from Thursday on they will start with a 'charm' offensive
knowing that they are going to get whacked in the election will try to leave the impression that they have been sweet people all this time.

4. The thing is, McCain really hates Obama. (And Palin really is a redneck)
Under normal circumstances McCain would pull a Dole and try to exit gracefully. Against Hillary or Biden he would.

But after picking Palin and the reaction to the financial crisis I'm not confident in McCain doing anything normal.

I hope you are right. It would be much better for the country.

BTW: I finally saw a different video of the maverick rally that caught the moment that photo was taken. I think the main lighting over the podium went down for a second resulting in that weirdly dramatic picture. So I no longer think it was even masked and retouched. Just an anomalous lighting effect. My bad all around.

3. Normally in Florida the Republicans wait until
the last weekend before the ballot and then run robocalls in the senior citizens areas of the gold coast and the redneck riveria saying the democratic candidate is gay. Hell, Martinez (w/Bush backing) even used it on "impeachem Bill McCullough" in the Senate primary last time.
