Just sent an email to Amazon - against their listing of OBAMA mask under "terrorist"
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 12:21 PM by literacyadvocate
Amazon had listed an OBAMA mask under the category of terrorist costume.(They have since removed the link after it popped up on the net) Here is the link with more details

http://oxdown.firedoglake.com/diary/1111

Please write an email asking them for a public apology for their serious lack of oversight and "anything goes" mentality.

3. As someone familiar with selling on Amazon by outside vendors,
I'd have to say that the categorization of the mask was most likely done by the vendor, not Amazon. Vendors choose the categories and keywords for their products. Amazon did the right thing by taking it down. A serious lack of oversight would have been refusing to change it when it was brought to their attention.

4. Getting Mad At Amazon About This Is Plain Dumb. It's Not Their Fault.
They are not the ones who listed it that way, and as soon as they got wind of it they removed it. I.E. THEY DID THEIR JOBS.

Trying to rally people to throw outrage at them is misguided and frankly dumb.

5. did not mean to throw outrage
If it sounded like it..that was not the intention. But I do work in the software industry and also in the e-commerce business, so I know there are steps that can be done to ensure proper listings.

I don't think they can be let of the hook completely. Anyways, that's my $0.02

9. You Can Get A Bunch Of DU'ers Agreeing About Lots Of Stupid Shit.
Doesn't make the argument any more sound though.

Amazon did their jobs. Casting blame on them for it is shortsighted, misguided and really just plain dumb.

15. I Always Defend The Innocent Against Unwarranted, Misguided And Ignorant Attack.
That's all I'm doing here.

Going after them for this is misguided and dumb. They did nothing wrong and in fact did everything right, since as soon as they were notified they took it down.

I hate irrational knee jerks.

7. You should also send a letter to the company that provides Amazon with power
The one that provided them bandwidth
The one that provided the server
The one that provided the CPU in the server
The restaurant that feeds the person that helped design the CPU
etc etc etc
