It was very stupid of Sarah Palin to revert to wearing "her own clothes."
There are times in politics when it is necessary to defend oneself, but this was not one of those times. While a lot of us had fun mocking Palin for her expensive wardrobe, bought on the RNC ticket, it was far stupider of her to give in to the criticism and stop wearing those clothes.

By suddenly reverting to her old clothes, including that hideous pink jacket supposedly snagged at a consignment store and wearing jeans to a Sunday night event in Asheville, Palin has justified all the criticism against her and her clothes.

This leaves all the wealthy Republicans who defended her need to have the right clothes looking foolish. And wealthy Republicans don't like to look foolish.

Meanwhile, even many of Sarah's base recognize the cowardly hypocrisy in her sudden rediscovery of "my own clothes" after she got busted. Not courageous. Not honest. Very reactionary.

And it's obvious that she can't take criticism. Very very stupid move.

2. Her comment about the clothes being "staging" made her look like
the Campaign SpokesBarbie, which she is.

Dumb, dumb dumb but I think she's thinking of her own ass now -- and how people in AK would not go for the Neiman Marcus shit! Her popularity there is really sinking. She overreached and hopefully will pay the price and get Quayled after the election.

19. It was stupid of the campaign to buy the clothes in the first place, but once busted
her only choice was to smile through the controversy and continue wearing those clothes. That was her only hope. By "cutting and running" she just proved that (1) it was inappropriate to buy the clothes in the first place and (2) she doesn't have any courage.

And (3) her "own" wardrobe looks like shit.

4. She also brought a dead issue back to life!
Strategically it was a complete screw up on her part.

It may not be fair to compare her fashion decisions with the decisions she might make as president, but if you dared make a comparison...imagine this person in charge of the US Military.

Goodwill it was not. It wasn't Saks either, but the cheapest things were about $100. (Which is incredibly expensive for me, maybe not so much for politicians, but it isn't the working class stuff she's trying to get at)

31. My daughter lived in Anchorage, is familiar with the store
She confirms that it is not your usual consignment store. It is very high end for consignments she said, the sort of place you'd buy a used designer dress at a pretty hefty price but no where near its original price.

11. Here in No. VA there are consignment stores that sell only designer clothes.
This is just a tax avoidance scam and ethics excuse on her part. Wonder if she'll send Todd to threaten whoever discusses the clothing. I guess with her on the National stage, it makes it more difficult for Todd to threaten people.

9. 'Reactionary' - I've noticed that about her
I'd also say very defensive. Look at the way she tried to snark back at Tina Fey's portrayal of her.

No more thin-skinned egos near the WH for a good long time.

Speak up if you believe that she would have returned or donated them on her own.

Anyway, you can't return designer clothes that have been worn for two months.

12. She gave the whole 'Clothing Gate' thing a new level of credibility.
By swithching to her old clothing, she tacitly admits that the $150,000.00 wardrobe was wrong and that the criticism of the whole affair was warranted.

If you aren't in the wrong, why change what you are doing?

21. And she left all the Republicans who defended her hanging out to dry!
That's my favorite part. Heck, even my boss defended her, and my boss is a Democrat. Lots of professional women were saying, "Well, she did need professional clothes..." And the true Republican base lives at Neiman Marcus and Saks. They didn't understand what the fuss was about in the beginning, and now they're really pissed off.

So now Sarah has made them all look like fools for defending her.

It also continues the discussion of it when it would have died down greatly by now on its own if she'd just ignored it.

15. She's being very defensive because she knows she's all image
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 01:59 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
She was elected Governor of Alaska and has built her political career on the image of the person who sold the Governor's jet and fired the cook. She also is probably upset about the stories that have finally come out about the fact she billed the state thousands to work at home and to transport her family around. She's absolutely shattered that her image is being destroyed because it's her only claim to her fitness for public office.

By the way, you could start a multitude of sentences with "it was very stupid of Sarah Palin" and fill in almost everything she's said or done.

22. She went off message to talk about the clothes and revert to her own wardrobe.
The campaign told her to drop it, but Palin couldn't stand the criticism, so she went out on her own and did something even more stupid.

29. Her crafted image of being "Working Class" was shattered.
She is Upper Middle Class. There is nothing wrong with that. She is a phony. Woman that support her probably don't know that she is a terrible role model for young girls, young women & any women for that matter. She is corrupt & inept. That is not the role model for anyone.
