HAHAHA!!! Reason number 598,682 to LOVE Austin, TX: |
|
http://www.burntorangereport.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=7247I need another sign, as mine was stolen. And, tired of having Obama signs stolen from my neighborhood, I decided to make one that can't be (easily) taken; and I spray-painted a giant 14-foot Obama logo on my front yard.

1. I've never been there, but I have heard there is a popular slogan: |
|
"Keep Austin weird."
I love that!

It started out as an ad campaign to support local businesses over the large chains but now it's our mantra. :D

6. This isn't mine, I found it from a blog.... |
|
I live in an apartment so it's impossible for me to be this creative. I'm going to attempt the Obama logo pumpkin carving though.

They spawned one of THE best bands ever, Ed Hall. Super cool dudes, and just a blast to see live. Lots of bouncing around. :bounce: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZewzLj5Pe_UThe Obama logo is damn cool too. :D

8. I was there in May for the first time, if you go, don't miss the LJB library or bat bridge |
|
really, both/either are worth a visit.
The LBJ library is free and has a 20 minute video every dem should watch showing all the wonderful things LBJ did.
I was "of a generation" that hated LBJ because of the war. I needed to see that film.
And the bat bridge, imagine 1 million bats flying out from under a bridge in the center of town all at once (sunset). They don't fly over or around you (unless you are on the lake that looks like a river) but it is pretty cool to see.
I'm sure there is other cool stuff but I was there for work and didn't have much time.

|

He WAS wrong about the war and that brought him down.

12. I just had to replace my obama sign today |
|
This sign had been up for close to a year too :(
$6 to replace the sign . $5 to make a new sign that says You can steal my sign but you can't steal my vote .
I also donated an extra $4 to obama's campaign for the stolen sign . I'll make a another explaining that as well.

19. Oh, I didn't go to UT. |
|
I went to one of the small private colleges. And I don't care who wins the annual football game. I have a serious case of sports apathy. :)

17. Habitat Suites is the most environmentally sensitive hotel in Austin. |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 03:46 PM by TexasObserver
It's near Highland Mall, and everything they do is environmentally sound. Also, if you like it quiet, they have a 9 PM to 9 AM "quiet" policy, which is nice.
I'm allergic to all sorts of cleansers and the toxins/chemical in perfume ridden things. They have none of that.
I just want to give them big UPS, because if you're like me, and want to have a better hotel environment than the norm, they have it, and I want to reward them for it.
Look them up if you want to see how they do it.
Austin is the most unique city in Texas, and although totally full of itself, is a great town. If you go to sixth street, don't forget to call ahead for Esther's Follies, too. Zilker Park. Barton Pool. The Botanical Garden. Hamilton Pool. Pedernales Falls. Great place to have fun and visit.
I was over there this past weekend, visiting my sister and her partner, who are very active for Obama and for various environmental causes, as well a couple of my grown kids who live there and are 100% Austin types.

21. But Austin's still uncool enough for signs to be stolen... |
|
That's a great solution, although not a very green one.
