Georgia's SOS website lets you know if someone voted yet or not
I didn't realize the site did that, but if you know a person's first initial, last name, birthday, and county of residence, it tells you the date that s/he voted.

http://sos.georgia.gov/cgi-bin/locator.asp

Turns out two people I know lied about voting already but I guess I was wrong for looking in the first place. I just find it interesting...

8. I thought about that. It's possible. One person scolded me about waiting
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 05:16 PM by Truth Hurts A Lot
so long (voted last Monday). And another one of my friends told me how long he waited in line. All I can do is emphasize how important it is for everyone to vote and how GA could possibly go blue. That way their conscious might get to them--but if the vote was stolen I don't think there's anything I can do. Maybe I'll also tell them about the poll locator site and they might do it just to avoid being exposed. lol

24. Rather than tell them they didn't vote...let them know they can find out if their vote was recorded

Registration Date: xx/xx/xxxx?

4. Mine mentions the date of my ballot request and receipt.
I guess that's supposed to confirm that I voted?

6. I guess so - the person I was able to see has none of that
last line is that registration date so I imagine they haven't voted quite yet.

3. On mine, it says stuff about my "absentee" ballot.
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 05:17 PM by morillon
I voted early on 10/13, and that's what my entry shows. I have no idea how quickly this stuff shows up. How long ago did they say they voted?

5. It won't show the absentee thing for people who haven't voted yet
I tested it with my mom who actually hasn't voted yet and myself and close friends who have voted.

15. Right. Maybe there's a delay, though?
I didn't check until just now, so I don't know how soon after the 13th my online record reflected that I voted.

19. Another thing.
Make sure the initial you're typing in the form is the same one that's listed first on your card. My mom's first name starts with an A, for example, but she goes by her second name, which starts with C. For some reason or another, they have her in the system by C and her last name. That's really weird.

Try the initials for both your names, assuming you have two.

I only saw this because it was on the front page and I have lots of family in GA. My mom just checked and hers says she didn't vote and she voted 3 weeks ago. She is e-mail blasting every one in GA with this info she didn't know about this site. Thank you!

22. Just to clarify what it should say:
I can't speak for people who did mail in votes, but people who voted early (absentee) in person will show in the second row:

Absentee Ballot Request Information
Election Date: 11/04/2008

Election Type: GENERAL ELECTION

Absentee Request Received: 10/20/2008
Absentee Ballot Issued: 10/20/2008
Absentee Ballot Received: 10/20/2008

It is calling the early voting "absentee" and has the date that it took place (I did it last Monday). My friends who voted last Thursday are also showing up.

For people who haven't voted early, the middle part doesn't show at all and it just lists the person's state reps ("Your Elected Representatives").

25. Her sister checked hers and she was good my mom was not
We knew about the absentee part because my aunt checked hers. My mom has phone banked and registered voters in her town Obama's office. It is across from the County Clerk office, so they can't be open during the County Clerk's hours. She is going tomorrow in person to see what happened. I believe if you help just one and you did! Thanks again!

29. For those Georgia voters THIS week
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 07:09 PM by Raine1967
I believe it us supposed to show up as EARLY voting. That is what the workers told me when I was voting in Fulton county last Thursday.

Anyone voting prior would be considered "absentee" and we were told to NOT circle ANYTHING after marking the absentee voting box.

Thanks SO much for this information.

31. How did all of yours happen on the same day??
All of your dates (received and issued) say 10/20/08.

I sent in my absentee ballot almost three weeks ago and yet, I still see this:

Absentee Request Received: 05/15/2008
Absentee Ballot Issued: 09/22/2008

No info on when my absentee ballot was received. Now I am starting to get very upset....

35. I did an in-person absentee :) On the forms we had to fill out,
you had to check absentee, but we were instructed not to circle a code.

I hope the site updates with some info to give you some peace of mind.

23. Be sure to tell them to check both their initials.
Most of the people in my family are called by their second names, and some of them are registered that way. I know, it's screwy, but for some reason, the system lets them use their second names for voter registration.
