BREAKING: NAACP Files Lawsuit Against Virginia Gov. |
|
Heard on CNN just now - they are alleging that the state did not adequately prepare for this election and provide for the tremendous number of voters. CNN said that the SOS or Elections Person would have a presser soon.

2. That's pretty surprising |
|
Tim Kaine was pretty much the first guy to endorse Obama and is one of his strongest advocates.

5. I doubt they're blaming Tim Kaine |
|
But they're suing the state because they're worried about excess turnout. They're trying to protect the future voters somehow.

3. Damnit Kaine. You knew there would be record turnout |
|
What the hell is wrong with these people running these states. The primary PROVED it would be record turnouts

12. Not a good move, IMO! |
|
This is not a good move in this battleground state! This will just call attention to the "racial issues" surrounding this election. I am a Virginian and I know these people. The NAACP would be better served quietly negotiating longer hours for voting, more polling places, even early voting (without a reason). This will not look good, I can assure you. And as many have commented, Kaine has been a strong supporter of Obama, as has his GOP FIL, Lynwood Holton.

15. I'd like to see a link on this.....most likely they are suing the state |
|
and as a Virginian, I really don't mind having the extra spotlight on the state. There were huge problems here in the primary in AA neighborhoods with lines and not enough ballots and so something like this will only put the good ole boy network of local election officials on notice!

10. There's probably more to this story |
|
Tim Kaine is an unabashed and indisputable Obama supporter. Maybe this is something he is cooperating with behind the scenes in order to make certain the voting is unobstructed.

13. I've been posting on this since I joined DU and it never got traction |
|
I'm telling you folks, if there are problems on election day, I'm betting on it being in VA.
Although suing Kaine, or the SoS (a Dem) isn't going to do much.
It's the local and partisan election chiefs who decided how the election in each county is going to be run and let me tell you there are a lot of good ole boys still in charge.
Look to Chesterfield County on Election night for huge problems. It is a red county but it has a huge low to middle income AA community who have failed to turnout in recent years. However, this year during the primary that came out in huge numbers. There were long lines, they ran out of ballots, etc.
And in 2006, the local election chief posted SECURITY (off duty cops) outside the polling places.
Now, he claims he has dealt with all of these things. But I am still going to keep my eyes and ears open. I really don't think it is going to be the end of the shenanigans, not when McCain is desperate to win VA.
