So the only way Ted Stevens can vote for himself is... if he gets a full pardon from his governor? |
|
It's not like they have anything to lose at this point.

2. I don't think she can pardon him, since he |
|
was convicted of Federal charges.

7. Excellent point! So Alaska doesn't allow convicted felons to vote-Even if they are not incarcerated? |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 09:57 PM by LaPera
Your scenario is perfectly funny though....Of course the republicans would never bring it up...Too bad 99.9999% of Americans aren't aware of this and made aware of it!
Even the fact it's a federal conviction and not state, his opponent should tell Alaskans Stevens can't even vote for himself because he's a convicted liar & thief!

8. So...you can't vote but you can run for office if you're a felon? I think we need to reevaluate that |

9. I'd heard on the radio today |
|
he's not technically guilty until sentencing, which is supposed to happen in January. After that, he'll probably appeal, which will take a few years. So he can still vote next week. I haven't seen this substantiated anywhere yet though, has anyone else seen anything?

10. He's 85 - so if he wins he has to give up his seat once sentenced...and Palin would appoint |

another republican, or would there be a special election? How does Alaskan law read?
I've waited many years to watch this anti-environment, pro oil, corporate, corrupt republican pig go down and it's finally happened....This is a happy day for the environment!

11. In AK the Governor appoints if there is a vacancy--but |
|
the question is--would she make a deal with the Lieutenant Gov. so she steps down and he appoints her? If she does it would likely be a colossal mistake on her part. She goes to Washington and demonstrates she can't shake anything up. She would be a freshman with no status. Plus, she would not be able to get around all the cute rules on gifts, travel and per diem. Plus, I don't see Todd being able to pull the stunts he has in AK as the shadow senator.

13. I thought Alaska required a special election due to shenanigans from the guy she replaced |
|
I think Palin can do a substitute but at some reasonably close time an election would be held for the seat.
