For many evangelicals, it will be the end of the world if Obama wins
QUIETLY SPOKEN, religiously and politically conservative, and living in the heartland of evangelical Christianity in the US, Daniel Lopez pondered the end of time that could come if Barack Obama becomes president.

"When I think of it, it brings to mind the prophecies that the Bible tells us about," said Lopez, sitting in the shade outside Focus on the Family's headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

"On the one hand, it is exciting for us as conservatives because we can actually see what God prophesied coming about; but on the other hand, it is frustrating to see somebody become president who is a blatant liar."

...

The evangelicals believe the world is swimming against a tide of filth: promiscuity; homosexuality; and the curse of relativism.

Eight years ago, and again in 2004, the evangelicals, who number up to one-quarter of the US population, were on a political roll, and were crucial to the election of George W Bush.

Today, they are still influential, as can be judged by Republican presidential candidate John McCain's selection of Alaska governor Sarah Palin as running mate.

Since they believe the result of the election is pre-ordained by God, I think they'll best be served by sitting this one out and not voting.

Apparently these fundamentalists know more about the 2nd coming then Jesus.

They are blasphemers when they do things such as calling Obama the anti-Christ.

Time now to come salvage for our brothers and sisters. It begins, but ONLY begins, now with the election of Barack Obama. That event signals a commencement of work ... not an accomplishment.

Now it'll be THEIR turn to sweat and fret over their favorite Supreme Court justices' health conditions.

We've hoped and prayed that Stevens and Ginsburg would make it.

Now they get to worry about whether or not 72-year-old Scalia will finally give-up his love of red meat and cigarettes.
Now they get to worry about whether or not 72-year-old Kennedy will decide that he's tired of being the swing vote.

Sucks to be them!

or born again.

If a person's heart was filled with the love of Christ there wouldn't be room for all the fear and hatred.

Beware anger, fear, aggression...The dark side of the Force are they.

Hitler said he was a Christian too, his Grandmother was a Jew. Those factors didn't change much. Like Sammi Jo The Stooge, he said he was a plumber but that didn't make it true.

This non-denominational and non-traditional Christian says a big ole FUCK YOU to the lying hypocrites.

I really think these crazy evangelicals are on their way out. They reek of fanaticism, of delusion, of judgmentalism. Who wants to be around that? Who wants to raise their kids with that?

I expect us to see a big rise in liberal Christianity and liberal chuches over the next decade as most normal Christians run as far away from the crazies as they can get.

21. the problem in a nutshell
"it is exciting for us as conservatives because we can actually see what God prophesied coming about; "

This idiot confuses being a gullible superstitious looney with being a political conservative.

That, of course, is what destroyed the political conservative (think Barry Goldwater) movement - Nixon's "southern strategy" when they recruited these batshit-crazy snake handlers to get them some dumb votes to throw against the FDR-progressives who were offending them with "bleeding-heart-liberal" social programs. Well, you reap what you sow, motherfuckers. YOU invited these cretins into your party, so now you can all go up in fucking smoke together. We could actually USE a 25% reduction in population in this country. Improve the environment, reduce energy consumption...

37. Waitaminnit, waitaminnit..... Wasn't Y2K "The End of the World"?
uh... I seem to remember at least three "Ends of the World" during my lifetime. Heavily promoted by limo-driving teevee preachers.

The world is always ending according to SOMEBODY.

The millenialist nutjobs just depend on it for their bread and butter, so they get their helots jizzed up about it as often as possible, based on any excuse they can latch onto.

The amusing thing about this behavior cycle is that the more spittle-frothingly strident they get about it, the tighter they get their followers wound...

...the greater the disillusionment when, finally, one day, one of them wakes up and realizes, "Shit, wasn't the world supposed to have ended by now? Like, twice, already? FOR SURE this time?"

And they drift away and stop going to church altogether.

Mind you, there are plenty who can be jizzed up over and over again, but sooner or later, after the seventh, eighth, whatever "for sure this time end of the world," they lose interest.

Especially if there's something good on American Idol.

rationally,
Bright

45. It's the ultimate blasphemy.
By the terms of their own faith, they're trying to force the hand of God and make Him act according to their wishes. They think that by their ultra-specialized, cultish interpretation of the Bible (a form of fortune-telling as they make it, and WAY more out there than any of my Wiccan fellows would sign off on) they can bring about the Kingdom of God.

They can't. By the tenets of their own Scriptures, only God can do that. Every single friggin, generation in human history has had an element that wanted to believe the End Times were coming in their day. It's human nature to want your generation to be special.

Presidential elections aren't determined by God any more than football games are, but so many people want so desperately for both to be.

UGH. GROW THE FUCK UP.
