Is it too late for Obama to drop a few hundred thousand $$$ in AZ? |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 04:58 AM by GrizzlyMan
From Kos....looks like some Repukes in AZ are reaching for the panic button. http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/28/4152/9379/499/644273On edit: To clarify I'm not saying Obama SHOULD put money into the state but rather being snarky about McCain's sluggish performance in his home state. And HE IS under performing.

1. Yes, and why would we want to we need to focus on the swing states |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 05:08 AM by davidpdx
I think all four candidates are going to end up winning their respective home state. Going back to 1980, the only candidate (president/vp) to lose their home states are:
Edwards (VP) 2004 Gore (President) 2000 Bensen (VP) 1988 Ferraro (VP) 1984
Just for the sake of trivia going back to 1960:
both McGovern and Shriver (President and VP) lost in 1972 Agnew (VP) 1968 (but turned it around in 1972 and the ticket won the state) Miller (VP) 1964 Lodge (VP) 1960
In recent time, only one Pres/VP nominee has lost their home state, but the ticket went on to win. That's Agnew.
We will carry both Illinois and Delaware though

3. The post is more snarky than serious |
|
However if the Obama campaign had been able to know it would have been this close in AZ come late Oct. it's without question they would have committed resources.

5. Considering 4 polls show AZ withing 2-4%, I'd say AZ is a swing state now... nt |

8. I disagree, Arizona is not a swing state |
|
It is leaning Republican and McCain's home state. He'll end up winning there by a good margin. We need to focus on Colorado and Nevada out west.

13. Arizona is closer than Colorado... |

Nevada seems less safe, though.

15. Problem is we don't need Arizona |
|
which is why you won't see resources put there. Colorado is less then 7 points, Nevada is less then 4

6. Even if it's not, I don't think it's the best use of his money |
|
I'd rather see him put more money into Georgia, where boosting the black turnout even more could help win the Senate seat. Or send more staff into Mississippi, where he's not going to win but by driving up turnout among his supporters he could help win that Senate seat. The more he does in the next week for downballot candidates the better off he will be as president, because he'll start out with more Senators and members of Congress who are somewhat indebted to him and are more likely to support his agenda.

7. Only states where Obama should send extra funds |
|
Are for battleground states and any state with close Senate elections.
Given the Stevens verdict, I would be more inclined to send funding to Caribou Barbie's state.

16. Nah, I don't think Begich needs it |
|
Most people think he's going to win now anyway. I think Obama can make the biggest contribution in Georgia, Mississippi and North Carolina, where driving up black turnout and encouraging people who come out to vote for Obama to vote for the Democratic senate candidate as well could make the difference. He could also help in Minnesota and Oregon, where he's really popular and is outpolling the Democratic Senate candidates. A visit might not be necessary there (I'm afraid if he campaigns in Minnesota it could look like he's running scared all of a sudden, although maybe it'll get McCain to waste time there), but cutting an ad for Merkley was a good idea, and maybe he could do the same for Franken.

9. If anything, it would take over the news cycle for Obama |

That would be like McCain campaigning in Illinois.
