"Get the Government off our backs" ... He may not have been the Owner of the Idea - But he sure as hell was the principal salesman.
Reagan manipulated the nation into believing that the Government has NO USEFUL ROLE TO PLAY other than national defense.
He was UTTERLY WRONG and we all are paying the price .... WILL ANY Democrat of significance, STAND UP and pin the current crisis on REAGAN.

The bailout kinda put the period on the end of that paragraph. People want big government, especially in a crisis, and the "blame" for the current one is going straight to the lack of regulation. That pretty much ends any discussion of "government is bad". People will always gripe about government, but for the near future, they will accept that government has a role to play in regulating the economy. It isn't really necessary to fight old battles just so you can declare victory. Just move on. They lost, it's over. The argument now isn't about WHETHER we should have regulation, but WHAT kind we should have.
