McSame wants to know? Let's tell him!
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 10:39 PM by mak3cats
He's concerned about where all those millions of dollars in "credit card donations" is coming from? I say we let him know. Here's my message to him through his official website:

"You wanted to know about the millions of donations that Obama has received. Just thought I'd let you know that I have given him about $300 at this point, but your ridiculous comment tonight has convinced me to make another donation. Thanks for your interest!"

And here's the link to tell him about yours...

http://www.johnmccain.com/Contact/

Edited for a more catchy subject line. Let's do this!

Edited again to ask some assistance:

I'm been around DU for quite a while, but am limited on my computer time and/or knowledge of other progressive sites. Should we get some allies in our quest? Any suggestions?

Edited again to change subject line from "Let's crash McCain's website" (not like I thought we ever actually would) to make this post eligible for distribution...

11. McCain & Khalidi sittin' in a tree -- Here's the info to send to McCain about his Khalidi connection
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 09:41 PM by thecorrection
In regards to Khalidi, however, the guilt-by-association game burns John McCain as well.

During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth half a million dollars.

A 1998 tax filing for the McCain-led group shows a $448,873 grant to Khalidi's Center for Palestine Research and Studies for work in the West Bank. (See grant number 5180, "West Bank: CPRS" on page 14 of this PDF.)

The relationship extends back as far as 1993, when John McCain joined IRI as chairman in January. Foreign Affairs noted in September of that year that IRI had helped fund several extensive studies in Palestine run by Khalidi's group, including over 30 public opinion polls and a study of "sociopolitical attitudes."

Edited to add my email to McCain*
Hi, I'm one of those "questionable" people donating to Barack Obama. I'd like to point something out to you about Rashad Khalidi.

It's easy to see what your campaign is trying to do. You figure if you tie two "Muslim" sounding names together your supporters and maybe some independents will jump to the terrorist conclusion. Shame on you Senator McCain. Apparently, somewhere along the 2008 campaign trail you lost your biggest asset, your honor. Is winning over truth so important that you will continue to use fear as a marketing ploy? Shame on you and your campaign.

44. Here's my message to him:
Thanks for inspiring me to donate again to Barack Obama! Your dishonesty, fearmongering, lies, and smear tactics are VERY effective fundraising tools for our next president, Barack Obama. Just as the International Republican Institute, of which you were the chair at the time, donated thousands of dollars to Rashad Khalidi (the man you are trying to associate with Barack Obama, using your little lipsticked pitbull to do it), thousands of dollars have been donated to our next president. You've been wondering about all the credit card donations to Obama; I am among the ordinary Americans who have made my small donation in that fashion (just call me Josephine the Safety Coordinator). And you can take credit for that! Thanks at least in part to your corruption, filth, dirty campaigning, mixed messages, and utter cluelessness, we are finally going to have a president of whom we can be PROUD - Barack Obama!

And when it comes to being anti-American?? Sarah Palin is the POSTER GIRL for that, given her ties to the AIP. She's not just 'palling around' with secessionist America-haters - she's shacked up with one. I am proud of our next president, Barack Obama, for running a truly honorable campaign and not stooping to the kinds of smear tactics you feel forced to employ. It's indicative of his good character, and of your lack of same.

But they got boring, it was always the same old thing, so I unsubscribed a couple of weeks ago. Then just yesterday morning I got an e-mail from their campaign and when I unusubscribed this time I was given the opportunity to make a comment - which I did!

It felt good!!

So if they actually subscribed me yesterday with this e-mail, hopefully I'll get to give them yet another comment when I re-unsubscribe!

Stop asking where Obama's donations have come from! They have come from regular middle class Americans like ME! I have donated $407 split up over 13 donations. Don't INSULT me by implying our donations are nefarious! Once upon a time, I really liked and respected you. You have sorely disappointed me. You are an insult to Americans, you and your laughable running mate.

I just want you to know I am one of the millions of true blue Americans who donated to Barak Obama's campaign.

I sent $50 during the convention, another $50 when you picked Caribou Barbie as your Veep and another $50 after the first debate, the second debate and then once again when you started telling me that I wasn't a "real American" because I live in a small town but don't support your policies.

Wish I could have given more, but that's all my budget would allow with the Bush economy.

Sincerely,

AZDD6

PS, I have already early voted so you can stop with those nasty robocalls now.

My message...

Dear John & Sarah,
Just wanted to let you know that I am one of many who have donated money to an election campaign for the first time in my life. Investing in my future, and in the futures of my countrymen, women and children is one of the many things I can do to help get Barack Obama elected as the 44th President of the United States. Barack and Joe Biden have our trust. Something we could never have in either of you.
Linda (Real American)

61. My "donation question"...
How can I donate to people who only spread fear, hate, and condescension? I donate to people who believe in love, unity, and equality. This is the world that has been in my heart forever. This is the world we finally have a chance see again (I think I thought I saw it try on 9/11-9/12, but that was fleeting). Welcome, President Obama!

65. my note to him
You wanted to know about the millions of donations that Obama has received. Just thought I'd let you know that I have given him about xxxx at this point, but your sad comment tonight has convinced me to make another donation. Yes, my husband was laid off, but luckily he got another job right away. Times are tough. We have no health insurance even though we both work. We lost 70% of our portfolio, thanks to your economic adviser's (Gramm) deregulation bill that he pushed through after 2 efforts were derailed, hiding it as a rider to an already long bill. then, there's the help of your campaign manager who lobbied extensively for Fannie and Freddie, and was still taking money from that company even two months ago. We know what happened there. Glad the exec got their huge bonuses, though. Way to look out for the people. So while we have little left, we know where to put it. Thanks for your interest! It's called government by the people, for the people, and of the people. Remember that?

72. Here's mine:
I'm writing to tell you that I'm one of the people who donated money to Barack Obama. My husband is currently on his second 15 month long deployment to Iraq. He's been in the Army for 6 years. We have four small children. You said tonight you wanted to know where Obama was getting his donations...well, they're from families like ours. Families who have had enough of this pointless war and Republican economic policies that make it impossible to give our family the quality of life that we deserve. Your innuendo about Barack Obama being less than honorable tonight also spurred me to give him another monetary donation. I have already given him my most precious commodity though, my vote.

Dear Senator McCain,

You want to know where all that money came from that Barack Obama has raised? It came from me, and millions of other people just like me.

I am at the very bottom of the economic pile, barely making enough to scrape by. I have no health insurance, a poverty-level income, and the only reason I am not living on the street is due to the kindness of my friends.

You see Mr. McCain, I became very ill in the recent past. For two weeks, I put off going to the doctor because I had no health insurance. The next thing I knew I was being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. I was admitted and put into ICU where I immediately went into renal, heart and respiratory failure. I was in the ICU for ten days, hooked up to machines that kept me alive until I was finally stabilized. Two days later I was kicked out of the hospital because I had no insurance.

Needless to say, I have had a very rough road financially since then. But ya know what? I believe in Barack Obama so much that I have often made the choice to donate to his campaign rather than put food in my belly, because Senator Obama represents the change we so sorely need in this country!

He ran the most disgraceful negative racist campaign in history and he chose the worst VP candidate in history.

Now, I've only been able to give Obama about $150, but I've been canvassing for him on weekends down in Missouri since he doesn't need any help here in Illinois. He's so popular here in his home state he's up 20-30 points.

I have donated $80.00 to Barack Obama. I would donate more but I am disabled with MS after working and paying taxes for 35 years and only have $1300 a month, out of which I have to pay a mortgage, buy my meds, and eat.
But Hell has to freeze over before I will donate a penny to a senile 72 year old with 10 houses who has lived on the public dime his whole life and has a bimbo airhead for a running mate. At least I was born in the U.S., unlike you. Fuck you and the horse you rode in. You don't need the White House, you need a nursing home, you doddering old fool.

John McCain mentioned today that he was upset that Barack Obama had many credit card donations that can't be tracked.

Well, I'm one of those that made a donation on my credit card. A $25 donation. I can't really afford it, with my hours being cut almost in half at work, and trying to attend college full-time to finally earn my degree.

But I donated to Obama anyway, because I know that my donation will help him defeat you and your Republicans buddies that have run this country into the ground for the past eight years.

I get so many emails and snail mail from Republicans because I have emailed everyone at one time or another due to 147 day strike my husband was involved with last year. We were trying to get the company back to the table with the union. By the way, only Dems signed a letter telling USA Space Alliance to get back to the table or they would pull the funding. Anyway, got a letter begging for money from Palin yesterday. I so enjoyed writing her a letter back and not putting any moola in it. They are begging big time for money to fight the evil Obama and Dems. I get at least three emails a day form them begging for money so email them back and always tell them what they have done that day and then say I gave to Obama.

Dear Senator McCain,

I am one of those "small donors" that you have been attempting to smear in the media. I am a proud, taxpaying American, and I resent the implications you are making regarding donors like me.

However, I am not surprised that you would stoop to attempting to vilify Obama supporters like me when you have run such a despicably negative campaign. You should note that what has prompted me time and time again to contribute another $25 or $50 to the Obama campaign is the receipt from your campaign of yet another vile attack mailing or robocall.

I used to respect you Senator McCain, but after observing the way you have run your campaign I have nothing but disgust for you.

RE: Donation Question

I am responding to your efforts to determine the source of Senator Obama's donations by implying that there is something "nefarious" going on with individual donors such as myself. I am a late 20's professional and I have donated several times, in varying denominations of money, throughout the campaign. There are many more like me from different backgrounds who have done the same - some have donated more, some less but anyone with a basic grasp of economics would understand how quickly this can add up.

Many hands make light work when all of us are accounted for and our voices heard. I must say, that given your desperation in the past few months, you would understand that negative campaigning and insulting the supporters of Senator Obama only causes the backlash against your campaign to grow. The American people have had enough and I'll gladly donate again today to Senator Obama's campaign in recognition of your complete ineptitude on the campaign trail.

Sincerely

A "not real American" in "Real American" territory

120. I did it!
And it did feel kind of naughty good....

I know you've been cynically questioning where Senator Obama's contributions are coming from and I'm here to tell you about $175 of the money. It came from me, a mom of 3, working from home to supplement my husband's income. We have ups and downs but we always remain positive.

Your unbelievable campaign of smears, hate and fearmongering makes me sad for my kids. If I could I would donate even more to our next President, Barack Obama but I can't right now so instead I phone bank for him while my elder two are at school and my youngest naps. This is the kind of "fake Americans" Obama has supporting him. I hope you and your "real American" supporters will accept when President Barack Obama invites you back in to the UNITED States of America. Despite your work to paint him as just shy of satanic, he knows that we'll all need to work together to help mend both the crippled condition of the nation you helped to bring on and the gaping wounds you and your campaign have torn into the hearts of your supporters.

You should know that in addition to the money you raised for Senator Obama with your smears, you also helped sway me to up my annual contribution to Planned Parenthood with your cynical, asinine appointment of Sarah Palin to your team.

Keep up the great work and don't stay up too late on Tuesday.

I am of dark skin - an external feature you have been re-educating your constituents to identify with terrorism.
I am a female - the group you jokingly disrespect and believe to be brainless objects. It is ironic watching you now fall prey to beauty and sexuality.
I am of the middle class - a whining member of the nation that could use some real tax relief.
I write to answer your most recent, nationally divisive, personally insulting and manufactured lie...
I am a credit card, small donating, Barack Obama supporter.

A little can accumulate into a lot. That's why I save coins in a jar. No reason you would personally understand that concept.
However, I did make a small one-time donation to Elwyn Tinklenberg in protest of Michelle Bachmann's eye-opening words on MSNBC's Hardball. Surely, the media and Ms. Bachmann can confirm for you how quickly a little can amass over the course of ONE weekend of outrage.

Now multiply that by many more people making small donations, over 20+ months to positive, encouraging, smart and effective campaign messages and...Voila! No scary secret stuff required.

Just so you know, Senator, those Obama-is-a-scary-black-guy Robo calls are cheap and will scare you up a few votes here and there, but they cannot compete with the smiles, donations and votes from those of us who hear: "We are a BETTER country than this." and "We are the UNITED States of America."

133. Awesome idea. .
here is my email

Hi Sen. McCain- You have been asking about who the small dollar donors are for Barack Obama.

Well, my family is one. A $15 dollar donation to be exact. My husband is a teacher and I work in non profit. We have two young daughters. Our youngest is a week older than Trig and like Trig she is a child with special needs.

We have only been able to donate one time to Sen Obama and we are in the middle class. We gladly gave him our hard earned money.

Thank you very much for asking about me.

135. Here's mine
Dear Senator McCain,

You have been worried about all the small credit card donations Senator Obama has received. You have complained about Obama not taking public financing. Well let me say that Obama has taken the ultimate in public financing and it has come in those small donations. Donations from people like me who could only afford $15. Just because there are millions of Americans who can't afford to donate enough to warrant documentation doesn't mean we don't exist or aren't "real Americans". Please stop trying to belittle or question my donation and that of others like me. We all can't be rich but we are all Americans.

140. To paraphrase mine
My husband and I gave several small donations to Obama. The amount of money we saved through Bush's tax cuts is a drop in the bucket compared to what we have lost due to the GOP's policies of de-regulation. I'd gladly exchange paying more taxes for having my retirement savings back.

142. from Sedona
Dear Senator McCain,

I am one of your constituents in Sedona, (remember your constituents....no, I didn't think so)
I am writing to let you know I am one of the millions of americans who have raised hundreds of millions of dollars for Senator Obama at an average rate of $84 per donation in hopes to remove the ruthless criminal Republican influence from our government.
I have donated $25-30 per month for several months and I resent your implication that small donors are somehow "suspect"

I work in the real estate industry and have recently lost my job due to the mess your party has made of the economy. Now that you have insulted all the small donors to Mr Obama's campaign my family will eat hamburger and macaroni and cheese for another week so we can scrape together another $25 to give to Obama so our government can be rid of you and Secessionist Sarah forever!

143. GREAT IDEA!! I chose "Donation Question":
Hi there John & Sarah!

I don't really have a question about donations, but I do have an answer to yours about the origins of the contributions to Barack Hussein Obama's campaign, or at least $200 of it!

See, I'm one of those latte-sipping, tree-hugging, peace loving hippies who donates to Obama and Biden every time something ridiculous is done by your campaign. For example:

• Sen. McCain – You refused to look at Sen. Obama during the first interview and failed to treat him with even a modicum of respect. I was so moved by his message and disgusted by yours, that I donated my first $25 to the Obama/Biden campaign.

• Sen. McCain – You recruited Gov. Palin as your running mate in a sad, sad attempt to pull former Clinton supporters (note: I was one of them...it didn't work). I laughed at Palin’s “In what respect, Charlie” and moose-caught-in-the-headlights performance during the Katie Couric interview and sent another $25.00 to Obama/Biden.

• Gov. Palin - You went all "maverick-y" and "pit-bullish" in an attempt to recreate Jim Crow-era levels of racial intolerance. I headed to a Harris County Democratic Event and picked up another $55 in Obama/Biden swag. By the way, my mother, Retired Air Force father, Gulf War veteran sister and uncle send their thanks for the Obama/Biden buttons, bumper stickers, and yard signs I sent to them from my newly acquired stash.

• Sen. McCain/Gov. Palin – Another donation of $25 went to the campaign of Sen. Barack Hussein Obama after watching a litany of lunacy including, but not limited to:

o "Obama is a Muslim Socialist who pals around with terrorists”
o Your despicable, hateful rallies,
o childish debate performances (winking, Gov. Palin? Come on!)
o the "real America/fake America" insult you hurled at all of us “city-folk”
o failure to repudiate the terrorist antics of your supporters, like hanging effigies and screaming
o and finally, having Elizabeth Hasselbeck introduce Palin (I mean really - Bitsy from The View??)

And now, after watching my small contributions at work over the course of the campaign season, what with the Obama/Biden campaign’s extremely-well run campaign, positive rallies, and last night’s 30-minute campaign ad (or “infomercial” as you delicately put it), I am moved to donate another $70 to the campaign of Barack Hussein Obama and Joseph Robinette Biden and make it a cool $200. Now I know that’s small potatoes in your world of high dollar contributors, but it is $200 than you’ll ever get from this “fake” American.

I hope this helps! Please feel free to email me if you need any additional information.

Blessed Be,

<my name>

THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN! I'm sending this to all my liberal brothers and sisters. :dem:
