My Sincere Apology to Obama Supporters |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 10:45 PM by Steely_Dan
At the beginning of the primaries and after careful consideration, I attached my star to the one man I felt could bring us out of 8 years of darkness. At the time, I could not imagine another candidate holding the reigns of the free world. My passion for his run was as powerful as any passion I had ever felt. That candidate was Joe Biden.
After Biden had stepped down and I witnessed the cat fighting between the remaining two, I became very discouraged.
During this time, while I tried to remain respectful, I know that I made statements that were not very complimentary towards Senator Obama. I was bitter and felt that my generation was left behind in this most important race.
I have been watching Obama now for the past several weeks. As time passed, I began to see in him what some of you have always seen. I began to see his unique ability to articulate the American dream in a way that touched me as it did you. I started to see the emergence of a dynamic leader...a leader of our times.
So, I come here to apologize to those of you that I might have offended. You were able to see something in Obama that I have only recently begun to appreciate.
Thank you.

next Tuesday it gets a lot greater
There were only a few here that actually started with Obama on day one.
Alot of us attached to a guy we loved who, had he been selected, would have ended our GE on the national Enquirer.

11. Hey, nobody was born sold |
|
Obama had to sell himself to me too, but I was never closed to the possibility. Those are the folks that frustrate me, the ones that just "ain't havin' it" he beat my guy/gal and we were screwed, so to hell with Obama, I'm voting for _______ because I'm pissed.

It's funny how my respect for his judgement went up considerably when he chose Biden. I think that's when things started to turn around for me.

I love Biden. He is perfect for VP, and if the unthinkable should happen, he is more than qualified to step in.

I am so glad my guy (Edwards) dropped out before I could vote for him in the NC primary. I would have regretted that forever! When Edwards did drop out, it took me about two days to decide for Obama. The people who supported Obama early were wise to see what an extraordinary man he is, and what an extraordinary president he will be.

24. I, too, wasn't initially impressed |
|
Oh, I liked the guy, and thought he showed great potential, but Obama made some missteps at the beginning, particularly when it came to GLBT issues.
But - Damn! - he learns fast. And he surrounds himself with really smart people, not just those who'll echo his own opinions. It's going to be a refreshing change after that last eight years.

27. Oh, I'm so glad you're back! Thank you! |

Biden is a great man too.
Going into the primaries, I was so thrilled at what a great, deep talent pool we had! Biden, Dodd, Clinton, Obama, Kucinich, Edwards, etc.....all highly intelligent, skillful, empathic, deep-thinking politicians who all had something important to say. Any one of them could have been a good President.
The Repubs? A bunch of opportunists and zealots and hate mongers. Feh.
I backed Obama early on because he's my Senator and there are many reasons he's well-loved here in IL. but I was never in the take-my-ball-and-go-home camp; I'd have been proud to work for any of our people. I'm so glad Biden was the VP pick, though - he's the perfect complement, and he deserves the promotion mightily. :toast:
