Repeat After Me .... THE RACE IS TIGHTENING |
|
and keep repeating it...
We all know this not to be true- but we need the apathetic voters to think that it is. We need everyone to vote. Why wait 2 hours in line if "Obama has this in the bag" is the common mentality i've seen from some people's ive seen ....
Tell all your friends
Tell all your coworkers
The Race is Tightening!!
Get Them Out To VOTE!

1. I too want the MSM to say this. One of my fears |
|
was that people would see Obama so far ahead they wouldn't worry about going to the polls

Given the historical nature of the election, I would think that a lot of people would want to be part of history in the making. Also, I think most people DO realize that Obama can't win if they don't GOTV because the polls are meaningless if people don't translate them into votes. So, is it REALLY necessary to try to make people "stroke out" over all of these "tight" polls?

Although I didn't think of the historical nature of the election part.. you are right. I really hope this is the attitude everyone has.

3. I'm going to have to strongly disagree. |

If the illusion that things are neck and neck is widely accepted as fact, it will make it much easier for them to steal it without getting caught. If we recognize Obama has a generous lead, the public would throw up a red flag if election results said otherwise. I don't think anyone buys the Bradley Effect. People will still turn up for Obama. This is the climax of the last two years. People want to be a part of it.

7. sf_331 and mynameisdane both have valid points... |

I say, bridge the gap by repeating this:
Barack Obama doesn't need to 'just win',
Barack Obama NEEDS to blow McCain out the water with the biggest landslide we've ever seen!
And we need everyone, EVERYONE voting - to give him the landslide he deserves!
After 8 years of getting raped, we need to send a strong message! So nobody gets to stay home!
(Still no room for complacency, without the 'tight race' idea)

11. What about the landslide effect? |
|
More likely than an energized Democratic electorate getting complacent this late in processs, IMO, is the real possibility of breaking the Republican will. If it looks hopeless for McCain, sure, we might lose a couple unlikely Obama voters to apathy, but for every one of them, we're likely to turn off multiple repugs. Additionally, theres lots of research showing that republican-leaning voters have a huge tendency to "vote the winner" because they don't want to be on the losing side. (weird, but a true effect). Finally, I'm opposed to fooling people for their own good. It can work, short term, but fosters more cynical behavior and loses its effectiveness quickly. One of the best things about Obama is that he isn't playing the same cynical games Rove, Bush and now McCain are so fond of. I'm going to continue telling everyone I can that this is going to be an historic landslide and I can't wait to be part of it.

I think it's a real effect. I'd almost say it's human nature for a lot of folks - Once the majority vibe shifts, they shift along with it, to be 'safe' or something...

I haven't seen Democrats this energized in a long time. We can see the finish line, why quit now?
