Stu Rothenberg: The Pres Race Looks To Be Over |
|
On MSNBC with Chuck Todd. Was kidding Chuck saying I don't know how you're still making this a race but as I see it, it's over. (paraphrasing)
Which is what the networks are doing, trying to keep it a race for ratings sake. The warnings about complacency are right. This last year proves that anything can happen. John McShame basically ended his campaign in one day with the fundamentals of the economy statement. So we can't relax YET. Anything can happen. If a spaceship landed it would become a toss up.

Amazing really considering how after the primary was over he said on air that after Feb. it had never been 5o/50 and that HRC only had a 1/5 chance of winning, the horse race meme was a myth perpetrated by the media to keep ratings up.. I would love to see Obama win huge. Then the Cons can take a mandate and shove it.

2. I do believe we passed a critical point the past two days... |
|
...and we have done so successfully. It's almost the weekend... Then all talk shifts to "it's almost time to vote" stories in a public interest sort of way.

4. Doesn't Chuck Todd see he's hurting his |
|
credibility for future elections? If he keeps it up, no one is going to believe his figures anymore.

5. I'll play Devil's advocate for the MSM |
|
What if, just what if, the MSM journalists, especially the Political News Managers/Editors know how important this race is. History and all that. Maybe they are trying to ensure record turnout for this election so it's decisive, therefore playing it as a horse race.
Now that I'm done with that. I don't believe it's true, it's all about the money however, if they start calling it for Obama now, it could suppress the voter turnout, if they call it for Obama now and he *gasp* loses, then they've got lots and lots of egg of their faces. It really is a no-win situation for them. You can tell Tweety just wants to call it and a few others but they're doing pretty well at towing the company line.

Complacency, jinx, bad form. However, I don't know about you but the constriction in my chest isn't what it was in 2004.

7. As Chris Matthews hinted yesterday, |
|
MSNBC employees have been instructed not to say what they know. Some, like Matthews, simply are too happy to hide it. Some, like Chuck Todd, continue to feign objective reporting. And others, like Mourning Joe and Mika Mouse, are too angry to pretend they don't know what is in the wind.
