Sarah Silverman is shamelessly calling out the lot of Jews who are closet racists

She's funny, smart, and has a new video out that points out that despite the Jewish image and reputation as being guardians of the Civil Rights Movement, many are not-so-closeted racists; particularly the geriatric set in Florida.

Higher than any other group except African Americans...

7. Racism is closely correlated with age.
I think it applies to everybody's retired grandparents, not just Jews.

14. Age does seem to be a common thread
But the Jewish community is often seen as being above racism. It was the way I was raised to believe.

19. I resent that
I'm a gramma. I live in an apt house with many other grammas. This place is a hotbed of dems. I'm getting sick and tired of people telling us how we are or how we think. They don't make old people like they used to.We are the rock and roll generation. And don't forget it.

My Mom, GranAnn to my kids is one of the most loyal Democrats I know. She is working a poll on election day as she has for many years. She still works full time (her choice) and is one of the most active volunteers around.

30. You asked for a study, I gave you a study.
"stand outside the republican women's club and ask them who they're voting for. Hmmm.
Women are voting for mccain. 100 percent."

Sure, and if you run a scientific random survey, conducted nationally like Gallup does theirs, you'll get a more accurate result.

"btw, if you are great grampa, are you telling us you are a racist? you're old and survey says... old people are racists."

No. Hence my use of the word "correlation."

I have no idea how well scientific literacy correlates with age. I wouldn't want to use anecdotal evidence. At least in your case.

....Reports are coming back that US citizens living in Israel are breaking 76% for McCain. Isolated example, or just the "Muslim Slur" has hit harder there than in the US?

It's National Review, so I suspect it's spinning as badly as possible

9. I agree. alot of her facial humor goes past a line that I'm comfortable with.
I don't get the humor, and assume some people take it as over the top theatre of the absurd, but I don't. It is interesting that she apparently is calling out racism in the older Jewish community, something I will accept that she know because she has seen and heard it. I hope she's swaying some votes, and it will be intersting to see if she has any measurable effect on the election there.

17. my daughter in her twenties says Sarah is doing what a lot of young Jews are doing
My daughter told me about this movement of younger Jews going to Fl to try to convince their grandparents to vote for Obama about two months ago. Apparently, the fact that this is Florida is what's driving this. Maybe something having to do with the number of votes Pat Buchanan "got" from the Jewish Community.

16. Did you forget the "sarcasm" smilie? I would compare her to Cook,
but I don't get either one of them. Cook takes forever to complete a joke, and he uses very contrived little skit stories to get there. Too me, he is all personality with no real comedic commentary value. I think I would like Silverman if she played herself promoting her views directly. I much prefer a Richard Pryor, a Chris Rock, George Carlin, or any number of social commentary comics who speak directly to the audience as themselves. That monologue/almost dialogue, especially in the hands of masters like these, is the best kind of stand-up. Cook and Silverman aren't even close to their league.

22. Well I have a Jewish client who came in this AM, old guy from Brooklyn,
the very definition of crusty, but a very interesting man. He's a retired aerospace engineer and attorney who was in the USAF during the Korean War. Loves musicals and foreign films but seems too crusty and borderline macho to be gay, lol. Wears the heavy gold chain with a Hebrew letter on it, not sure what that's called. Has MONEY.

HUGE HIGE HUGE Obama fan!!!! REALLY REALLY REALLY hates McCain but especially Palin!!! We have had a number of good talks about politics, and he sees Obama's intelligence and leadership skills and that's what got him on board.

As I understand it, the effort is directly at older white folks -- in this case older Jews -- who might be especially set in their ways and not want to vote for someone unlike anyone they've voted for in the past. So their kids are trooping down to Florida to help them see the light.

36. My canvassing partner and I encountered some racists.
This was back in September. My canvassing partner is in his early 80s and had canvassed for every Democratic candidate since Truman, for the love of Pete, and he had never before encountered such ferocity in people's *hatred* of Obama. Sadly, many of them were Jewish. Many Jews really had to be persuaded this time around. Much of it has to do with Israel.

It really put me off of canvassing. It was horrible, horrible.

47. My once liberal Jewish parents have gone to the dark side
They started watching Fox News after we invaded Iraq. They've never been the same. They are voting for McCain. Ten years ago they would have been horrified to have someone like Palin a heartbeat away from the Presidency, but now they scramble to make excuses for her stupidity and viciousness.

My 87 year old father says he won't vote for Obama as a matter of "personal survival". At 87, what survival would that be?

She's Irish, not Jewish -- or "Scots Irish" as she likes to insist -- but she's a diehard lifelong Democrat who now refuses to vote for Obama. She won't vote for McCain either, so she'll sit it out -- in Nevada. She says it's loyalty to Hillary. Maybe so, but I think it's maybe more than that.
